c.1934 Bacon & Day Silverbell Banjo 'Sold'

VG(+) condition. This is a nice playing original Silver Bell tenor that has had one fairly major repair. The banjo sustained a major neck break quite a few years ago and was repaired very well. There are two brass pins that were used to dowel the repaired area. Everything is secure, and the area feels good to your hand when playing. You wouldn't easily know the neck was repaired if not for the two brass dowels.

Multiple wood layers on top and back of peghead, under fingerboard and heelcap. 2-pc neck with multiple strips of wood along center.     It is easy to see why Mr Doug Unger has such a fine reputation for reproducing old instruments, in part and in whole, and for his painstaking restorations... The neck feels much more like an old original neck than a newer neck, and the degree of exact feel for the inlays and the heel carving is astonishing.

c.1994 Gibson 'Earl Scruggs' Copy by Frank Neat Banjo 'Sold'

Traditional Gibson "Bowtie" copy by First Quality. Mahogany neck and resonator. 3-ply maple rim mounted with Kulesh 20-hole tone ring. Rosewood fingerboard with MOP bowtie inlay pattern. Peghead has Gibson logo inlaid in pearl and the Gibson crown inlay below the logo. Engraved Mastertone block inlaid at 21st fret.

     Comes with Keith 'Scruggs' D-tuners installed at 2nd & 3rd strings. Waverly 1st & 4th tuners.
You know how sometimes you encounter a banjo that just "has it"? Well, this is one of those. The entire instrument vibrates and resonates when it is played and it has great tone through a wide range of head tensions. Right now it is set at typical "G#" tuning... but it also sounded great when even below G, right at G, and at A pitch.

Gibson Handmade RB-4 1

c.1993 Gibson Handmade RB-4 Tube & Plate - 100% Orig Gibson Parts Banjo 'Sold'

Hand Made w/ all Gibson Parts.
Exc(+) condition. Walnut RB-4 style banjo handmade by Greg Boyd from 100% authentic Gibson parts. We produced several of these banjos, and local players refer to them as a "GB-4".
That's right... in the early 1990's we were very fortunate to have purchased a regular supply of authentic parts direct from Gibson. We purchased raw resonators (unsanded, unbound, unfinished), raw necks (inlaid by Gibson, but unfinished, unbound, unfretted and not shaped), raw unturned 3-ply rims, Kulesh tone rings, 1-pc flanges, tension hoops, and even this 2-pc Tube & Plate flange on this banjo. There were only a very few of the Tube & Plate flanges to buy, and I am sure it was the very old stock, as they match the late '20's and early '30's flanges and were nothing like the larger tubes on 1970's Gibsons. We had to buy the tuners ourselves, but used same tuners Gibson was using at the time.
Many people can scoff and say this is not possible... but I was there picking up the armloads of necks, boxes of stacked resonators and rims, writing the checks and loading them into my vehicle.
All in all we produced only about 20 or so of these banjos using all Gibson parts. This particular banjo was made by me for one of my best friends, Dave Kraus, a great area guitar player and singer, who never "took" to playing banjo. So... while this banjo does have some 16 years of clouding of the nickel, it is essentially hardly played. It does show signs of handling over the years, as I am sure it was taken out of the case for players to enjoy at Dave's famous pickin' sessions, but it has no problems and no significant fret wear.
Neck was hand-shaped and bound by me, fretted and finished by our staff in our former store. Resonator was bound by me and finished in our store as well.
There is no label, but there is writing on top of rim, below tonering, that states I made the banjo, and it is signed.
After sitting for so long, we have replaced the 16-year old strings, polished up the nickel a little, and given the banjo a fresh set-up.
It sounds great. It has big presence and a growly attack. And... it is essentially a true "Gibson", even though it was not assembled at the Gibson facility.

1982 Gibson Mastertone Copy w/ Bella Voce inlay Banjo 'Sold'

VG condition. Some player wear: V-dents in frets, nicks here and there and some flaking finish on top edge of resonator and on back of resonator. Made with mostly First Quality parts.
Figured Maple neck and resonator. Ebony flat fingerboard with Bella Voce pearl inlay pattern in fingerboard and headstock. Original gold plated tone ring mixed with mostly Nickel hardware, with exception of newer gold Presto tailpiece. Nickel 5-star planetary tuners with Schaller 5th peg, all with matching pearloid buttons.
This banjo was built by Don Elkins, here in Montana, for the pre-eminent banjo player in Montana at the time, Johnny Bebinger. Johnny was truly a great player and was constantly in demand for gigs, lessons, jams and studio recording sessions. This was his main banjo for several years until he sold it to Greg Boyd, so he could build a fancier gold, engraved banjo for himself.
Used for several years (and many gigs), by Greg Boyd, until he sold it in about 1994. Now it is back here in the store.
This banjo has a great sound, with lots of presence and tone.

c.1934 Gibson RB-1 All Original Banjo 'No Longer Available'

Excellent original condition. All original parts, including: frets, nut, 5th string nut, 1-pc flange, tension hoop, tailpiece, tuners, reso hardware, armrest, tuners, hooks & nuts, etc... Even the hard case is original and working, but has a newer replaced handle.
     * If you are looking to buy this banjo and convert it to a full flathead version, I suggest you buy a different banjo. There is nothing wrong with the sound of this banjo and in the future you will probably regret cutting the rim...
Original 5-string neck, resonator and rim. Rim has original brass bead ring for tonering. 5-string neck is in very good shape and has never been cracked or repaired. All finish is original.
These original Gibsons with bead brass for tone ring make you aware that a tone ring is really only a facilitator for tone to resonate and develop thru the rim (and neck and resonator). When someone is playing this banjo and you are approaching it, you cannot tell that it doesn't have a full flathead tone ring - all you hear is great tone.
Maple banjo with brown finish. Some finish worn on back of neck, and some various scratches on resonator. Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard with gull wing inlays. Gibson pearl logo inlaid in peghead along with pearl flourish inlaid in center of peghead. Resonator and fingerboard bound with cream binding. Original Grover Pat. "dog-ear" tuners in peghead, with friction tuner 5th peg (works fine). Original matching cream buttons.
Original 1-pc pot metal flange is in very good shape, with no cracks and no bad bending. Original pot metal tension hoop shows a little outward lean, but is in good shape and shows no cracks.
Comes set-up to play with an old Remo head that shows finger wear and the former owner's name, Butch. New Prucha bridge. Now has recent professionally installed r.r. spikes for 5th string capo'ing.

c.1963/64 Gibson RB-250 w/ RB-800 Neck Banjo 'Sold'

Exc(-) condition. This banjo is a "one-owner" RB-250 that had an RB-800 neck put on it by Gibson in about 1970. The owner was never happy with the original neck, and after some visits to local luthiers he began to understand that something about the neck and the frets was "off" in the construction. He spent many phone calls to Gibson with them not believing him that there could be a problem like he was suggesting. Finally he decided to take the banjo to Gibson to prove to them that it had a "bad neck".
According to his wife (at the time), he used the rent money to buy a train ticket to Kalamazoo, and took the banjo. After seeing the banjo and agreeing that the problem was their fault and couldn't be corrected, they offered him any neck in the operation for his trouble. He chose this RB-800 neck, and Gibson installed it for him.
The owner was a very popular and avid player in our area and this banjo was used for many gigs and jams in our area over many years.
Please call us for more details.

1976 Gibson RB-250 Banjo 'Sold'

Exc(-) condition. With all original parts. One of the icons of the Gibson banjo world. Mahogany neck and resonator with antiqued white bindings on resonator and Ebony fingerboard. This banjo shows some moderate player wear: The resonator has some button marks and random nicks and scratches, but nothing big; The neck shows a small area of thumb wear into the finish. Recent fret job, with fingerboard milling. The word, "Mastertone" was sanded out of the pearl inlay block during fretboard milling.
The banjo currently has 2 D-tuners installed at 2nd and 3rd string, but comes with the extra 2 original tuners. It is also set-up with a Kirschner style tailpiece, but also comes with original tailpiece in the case. This banjo is fully set-up and it plays fine.

Gibson TB-11 Neck

mid-1930's Gibson TB-11 Conversion to 5-string Banjo 'Sold'

Exc condition. There are a couple of acceptable ways to make a "correct" 5-string neck for a TB-11. One way is to copy the pearloid fingerboard, complete with the painted-on artwork that is done to look like inlays. The other way is like this banjo - true to original peghead shape, and blue color finish on back of neck, but with normal wood fingerboard inlaid with pearl renditions of the original artwork. The maker went even further on this neck and also inlaid abalone along the inside of the bindings in fingerboard "face". This banjo has most of the original hardware, and it's in fine condition. The Tension Hoop and Armrest have been replaced with newer parts. Original tailpiece comes with the banjo, but a newer tailpiece is mounted at this time. Professionally fitted with a Huber Flathead tonering mounted on the original 3-ply Maple rim. The original tuners are also installed in the neck.

Houghton Reliance No. 10 1

New Houghton Reliance No. 10 Tunneled 5th String Banjo 'Sold'

Exc(-) condition. Made by George Houghton in England in late 1800's. Mr Houghton made instruments for several brands, but his own label was the "Reliance" Brand, which this banjo is.
Walnut, with cut diamond and dot inlays in fingerboard overlay and a dot in peghead overlay. Tunneled 5th string. Original guitar tuner set has 6 tuners, though only 5 were ever needed for the banjo to be strung and tuned.
Well made, with interesting design and construction. Neck heel is originally 2-pc and shows some separation at glue joint that needs repair.
This is a nice banjo and is very collectible. It has all original parts and is playable. I have seen just enough of Mr Houghton's banjos with various brands on them that this is what I view as a "typical" English banjo.
Comes with a newer hard case.

2003 Huber Kalamazoo Banjo 'Sold'

Exc(-) condition. Radiused fingerboard. Some wear thru finish on back of neck, and button "trails" on back of resonator.
This was the main banjo for a good local friend and customer of ours.  He played it avidly for 6 years in our area, attending many local festivals, campouts and jams. Unfortunately, he passed away suddenly a several months ago, so his banjo is available for someone else to enjoy as he did.
Mahogany neck and resonator. Cream bindings on resonator and neck, with concentric circles in back of resonator. Waverly 2-band tuners in peghead, with Schaller 5th peg. Ivoroid tuner buttons. Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard with r.r. spikes installed at A & B position for 5th string capo'ing.
I realize that almost every banjo you read about on almost every web page talks about 'how good' any particular banjo sounds... But I must say - everybody who plays in our area has commented on this banjo about how great it sounds. It is set-up well, and has a good "growl" and a flat 'brrr' sound even up high.
Playability is fine and frets are in good shape with no divots or wear.

Resonator is carved solid wood "Massif resonator", made with bookmatched blocks of high grade Maple turned and then carved and voiced. This solid wood adds a satisfying "pop" and presence when playing.

New Prucha "Diamond Point" Top Tension Banjo 'Sold'

New. Maple Top Tension. Handmade by Jaroslav Prucha and his son, John.
Jaroslav Prucha has only made a few "Diamond Point" models that were made as a Top Tension banjo. In fact, any of his Top Tension banjos fall into a category you could label as "rare", as only about 10 to 20 have ever been produced to date.
Beautiful Maple neck and solid carved and voiced "massif" resonator. Radiused Ebony fingerboard. Ivoroid multiple bound resonator and fingerboard - on the resonator you see the black line on top, back and sides. Abalone inlays. Nickel hardware. Modified Kerschner (Prucha) tailpiece. Gotoh main tuners with Schaller 5th tuning peg, all with matching ivoroid buttons.
Prucha's Top Tension banjos always get real close attention and real favorable comments when at our store or at a show... and this one is right there with the ones that came before it. Very nice wood, extremely high level of craftsmanship, and big beautiful expressive tone with a great attack.
     * If you are unfamiliar with the Top Tension concept, call me and I'll be happy to discuss their special aspects in more detail.

Amber tuner buttons on Ptacek 2-band tuners.
The color of the finish really brings out the figure in the Cherry wood. The tortoise bindings, the copper parts and the amber tuner buttons blend in just wonderfully, to give the banjo a great look. And, as always, Mr Prucha's perfection of workmanship are stunning in the neck shaping, the inlays, bindings, fit of resonator - I could go on and on about it...
Cherry wood banjos from Mr Prucha are pretty rare. In the last 14 years we've only had about 8 of them.
This is a fine banjo, with only barely any evidence of being pre-owned.

New Prucha "Diamond Point" Custom Cherry Banjo 'Sold'

The Diamond Point models from Prucha are more often thought of as a Mahogany or Walnut banjo, but he has made a handful of them with figured Cherry. This example made with Cherry wood shows off some great Quilt figure Cherry in the resonator and  has a highly figured Cherry neck.
Multiple Tortoise bindings on resonator and fingerboard, with the middle white line acting not only as an accent line, but also causes the outside layer of tortoise to light up and really come alive.
The color is really a tasteful compliment to the Cherry wood and the bindings and as always, it is expertly applied by Prucha.
Since our first Prucha Cherry Wood banjos from around 1999 or so, we have noticed that good players always remark favorably about the sound of them. This one is no different - Growly and punchy, with clear fat highs, strong presence and expressive nuance.

New Prucha "Fall-in-Love" Maple Presentation Banjo 'Sold'

We are happy to bring to you our first Prucha Presentation Grade banjo that has Abalone purflings. These highly collectable banjos from Jaroslav Prucha are quite rare, with this banjo being the only one produced in a year or more.
Of course Mr Prucha has chosen top grade Maple for the beautifully figured neck and solid carved Massif resonator. *These rare Massif resonators are made with backs of solid blocks of bookmatched wood and turned on a lathe for shaping a recurve into the back. Then they are hand scraped and tuned by Mr Prucha. Differing from the early Gibson Top Tension solid resonators, these are also carved and shaped on the inside, instead of flat.
The beautiful woods are accented by very tasteful bindings of multiple Ivoroid, with center line of high-grade Abalone purfling, seen along sides of fingerboard, sides of resonator, and around Ivoroid heel cap.
Elaborately engraved Gold and Black Nickel hardware, mixed thoughtfully for a wonderful overall look. Tailpiece is Prucha's own modified Kirschner, with Black Nickel and Gold Ptacek vintage style 2-band tuners. R.R. spikes installed by Prucha at A, Bb, B & C positions.
These presentation grade banjos aren't just for looks - they are working tools, designed to sound every bit as beautiful as they look.

New Prucha "Fall-in-Love" Custom Banjo 'Sold'

Highly figured Maple neck and figured resonator. Very nicely appointed, with many of the favorite options:
Radiused Ebony fingerboard, with Abalone 'Falling Leaves' inlays in peghead and fingerboard, and Abalone truss rod cover. Ptacek 2-band vintage style tuners and Schaller 5th peg - all with matching Ivoroid buttons. R.R. spikes installed by Prucha at A, Bb, B and C positions, for 5th string capo'ing.
Bindings are multiple Ivoroid on resonator and neck, with small colorful wooden purflings 'below' the bindings. The coloration of the finish is skillfully executed, with dark amber sunburst tones that accent the Maple quite well.
The hardware is nickel plated 'matte'... This means the key parts were carefully glass-beaded, to prepare the brass and bronze surfaces to look 'frosted' after the nickel plating went on. The effect is great - it truly is understated elegance.

1999 Prucha "Fall-in-Love" Archtop Custom w/ Massif Resonator Banjo 'Sold'

Exc(+) condition. Highly figured Maple neck and solid carved and voiced "Massif" resonator. Only very slight signs of prior ownership. Very minor button trails on back of resonator that are hard to find. NO wear on frets.
This is a pretty great banjo. Jaroslav Prucha made it for a reknown Czech Bluegrass and Jazz musician, Dalibor Cidlinsky. Being an adventurous jazz guy, Dalibor traded it back to Prucha around 2004/5 for a custom made Prucha electric banjo.
As soon as I saw and heard it I immediately acquired it from Mr Prucha, for my personal collection. I kept it for 4 or 5 years, then sold it to buy a nice motorcycle (ahhh... the lure of the open road).
Now the customer has traded it back to us for a Prucha Top Tension banjo that is on order for him... but I want to keep the motorcycle, so I can't put this one back into my personal collection.
It sounds really great. I have set it up fairly relaxed, as well as pretty tight, to 'put it to the test'. It sounds great all thru these settings, with lots of presence and great attack. This is truly a fine sounding instrument.
No-Hole archtop tone ring with 1-pc flange. Radiused Ebony fingerboard with high grade abalone 'fallen leaves' inlay in fingerboard and peghead. Multiple ivoroid/black/ivoroid bindings with wooden marquetry purfling under the binding on resonator top and back, and along fingerboard.
Hardware is a tasteful mixture of 1/2 Nickel and 1/2 Gold. Amber tuner buttons. Ptacek vintage style 2-band tuners, with Schaller 5th peg.
This banjo would cost quite a bit more these days, so take advantage of this special offering of a special banjo at a great price.

Exceptional original condition. No player wear. Strongly figured Maple neck and resonator. Solid carved "Massif" resonator and neck. Radiused Ebony fingerboard with 'Falling Leaves' inlay pattern in abalone. Ebony peghead veneer with abalone inlays.
Multiple ivoroid/black/ivoroid bindings on resonator. Ivoroid fingerboard bindings. Colorful wood marquetry purflings below bindings on sides of resonator and neck. Hardware is a tasteful mixture of Black Nickel and Gold plating. This hardware blend is well thought out and adds quite a bit to the overall look of the instrument. Even the tuners have been assembled to show off this effect.
There aren't many Prucha banjos with the solid "Massif" resonators. These are made using solid blocks of Maple that are bookmatched, then turned inside and out with a recurve showing along edges (like a good mandolin back). Then they are hand scraped and tuned by Mr Prucha. The final effect is quite good. The player enjoys a satisfying subtle "knock" to the attack.
This is a fine example of Prucha's high grade materials and craftsmanship and would be a fine playing tool for any serious player, or a fine investment for a collector.

Custom banjo, with extra-nice old cured Maple solid carved "Massif" resonator, and many other nice options. Dramatically figured Maple neck. Radiused Ebony fingerboard with abalone "Falling Leaves" inlay pattern. JPrucha logo and floral pattern inlaid in Ebony peghead overlay. Multiple Ivoroid bindings with wooden marquetry purflings under the bindings, along the resonator side walls, and along the fingerboard.
The hardware is a mixture of Nickel and Gold, with Gold archtop 'no-hole' tone ring, 2-hump tailpiece, armrest, hooks and nuts, co-ordinator rods, gold Schaller 5th tuner. The 4 main tuners are Gold Ptacek 2-band, except that the barrel and nut and wash are Nickel. Nickel 1-pc flange and tension hoop.
This is a nice banjo. It was made by Jaroslav Prucha in 1999 for Dalibor Cidlinsky, a noted jazz banjo player, keyboardist, arranger and producer in the Czech Republic. Possibly because of Dalibor's status as a great player and as a friend of Jaroslav Prucha's, this banjo was made with very select woods. For me, perhaps the main ingredient is the 'no-hole' archtop tonering. These always sound great, and are capable of much wider tone range thru set-up than most people are used to hearing in an archtop. This particular banjo has spent time with very relaxed set-up, medium-tight set-up, and also with Ralph Stanley high tension set-up. It had full professional tone throughout those varied settings... It is a great banjo with lots of character.

This banjo is really a strong one. Big, big bottom end with concentrated focus and growl. Highs are not shrill, but have a very good growl and plenty of fat tone, even way up high on fingerboard. This is definitely a great banjo for sound.

2003 Prucha "Legend" Banjo 'Sold'

Almost New condition. No wear on frets, no marks on back of resonator, no dents in back of neck.
Highly figured Maple, with very strong striping figure in neck, 1-pc figured Maple resonator back. Resonator has multiple ivoroid/black/ivoroid bindings seen on top, back and sides of resonator, and multiple ivoroid/black/ivoroid binding with black line seen on side of fingerboard. Radiused Ebony fingerboard, with Abalone "Hearts & Flowers" inlay pattern. Ebony peghead overlay, with JPrucha inlaid in abalone and H&F abalone peghead inlay pattern. Nickel Schaller 2-band pre-war style tuners. Nickel hardware, with "Gibson style" rim and 1-pc flange.
As usual, the workmanship is superb. It is extremely difficult to fit the flange and the neck heel perfectly into the resonator... but Prucha does it every time. Also - the neck shape is very elegantly carved. You could actually get lost in wonderment while looking at how perfect the neck shape is, the perfect binding, the perfect inlays, the color of the finish over the nice figured Maple, etc.
This banjo has great tone. Contrary to many armchair quarterbacks who say "Maple is too bright", It isn't too bright at all. In fact, it has a lovely rich and growly sound and is clear and sweet all the way up the fingerboard.
This banjo comes with transferrable warranty.

Vega Folk Ranger 1

c1964 Vega Folk Ranger w/ orig. "Pancake Tuners" Banjo 'Sold'

Excellent condition. Sunburst Maple neck. Original frets with no wear. Original hardware, including pre-war style offset pancake tuners, all hardware on pot, Vega sliding 5th string capo, and even the original frets and head...! Pot has original brass bead tonering.
This banjo is in really great shape. Its easy to tell it was never really played. There are a few very small nicks in the finish, and there are some lines of finish checking on neck heel.
Vega made this model, the "Folk Ranger", as their long-neck model just under the "Pete Seeger" longneck model. Usually, they had 90-degree "guitar-style" tuners... but this one got "pancake" pre-war style offset tuners. It also came from factory with Vega sliding 5th string capo mounted on side of neck.
The Vega longnecks are a re-creation of the banjo Pete Seeger modified to add 3 extra frets, so he could play the banjo in "E" tuning, for example... But when you capo up to the 3rd fret, its in "G" tuning and plays like any normal banjo with normal scale length.
The banjo is in nice shape and is set-up to play with no problems.

New Williams "Custom 32" - Lightweight Banjo Banjo 'Sold'

Exc(++) condition. Maple banjo with an old c1932 bead-brass tone ring from an original TB-1. 50-year old Maple in the neck. Straight-grain Maple resonator. Cox 3-ply Maple rim. Rosewood fingerboard. Excellent intricate, yet tasteful, inlays in peghead and fingerboard. Mostly Prucha parts, including Ptacek pre-war style 2-band tuners.
This banjo weighs about 3 lbs less than a typical bluegrass banjo. The tone is great. Lots of presence, good solid attack. I can say that in many settings you could play this banjo and most listeners would not know it only had a brass bead ring, instead of a full weight Flathead tone ring! It sounds very close to my original 1934 RB-1.

New Williams "Custom Vintage Archtop" 1932 Archtop Tone Ring Banjo 'Sold'

New. This banjo from Will Williams was made with an original 40-hole tone ring from around 1932. It was mated with an old cured Jimmy Cox 3-ply Maple rim from the 1970's. Unfigured Maple was used for the neck and resonator. This wood was chosen to support the resonance from the rim and ring. One-piece pot metal flange. Rosewood flat fingerboard.
Ivoroid bindings on top and back of resonator and along fingerboard. Elaborate yet tasteful pearl inlays in peghead and fingerboard.
We've been having fun with this banjo since we picked it up from Will at a recent festival. It is set-up pretty tight, around a C pitch, and it has a great high-mid presence. I haven't heard it with a more relaxed head, but there is no reason to want to. This banjo has found a beautiful zone of "spang". In other words, if you are looking for a very cool sounding archtop, I would heartily recommend this one.

New Williams "Kenny Ingram" Banjo 'Sold'

#19. Here is the banjo that is the toast of the country! Will Williams was already known far and wide for building great banjos, but when Kenny Ingram heard them he asked Will to build him one with a little bit special "look" and some specific components. The result is a Mahogany banjo with concentric rings in resonator, built with Burlile Flathead tonering fit to an old seasoned Maple 3-ply rim, the "old floor" rim. Will makes this model with necks by Arthur Hatfield. Will constructs the banjos with all hand fitting and hand finish.
These Williams banjos have caught on and developed a strong reputation as being extremely similar in tonal response to pre-war original banjos.      This is the last of the "Kenny Ingram" models. Will Williams has decided to "semi-retire" in order to spend more time with his family and with his band... He has announced that there will be only a few more of the Kenny Ingram models.
Select-grade Mahogany resonator and neck. Rosewood fingerboard with Flying Eagle inlay pattern. Double-cut headstock. Sullivan "Old Factory Floor" 3-ply Maple rim. Burlile pre-war style flathead tone ring. Keith tuners. Concentric circles in back of resonator. Tasteful inlay pattern in peghead and fingerboard.
This banjo is more than the sum of it's parts and appointments. Will "thoughtfully" assembles his banjos from mating correct weight and density of 3-ply Maple rim to correct weight of hand made Burlile tone ring. This step alone is very important in getting the right consistent tone.
This banjo has a fine sound... lots of presence, lots of growl, great sound up high. It has the 'growly' sound when you want it and it rings when you want it. In short, it has major tone.

Mahogany neck and resonator. "Old Factory Floor" 3-ply Maple rim. Jim Burlile flathead tone ring. Antique'd white bindings around top and back edge of resonator and along sides of fingerboard. Two white/black/white concentric circles in back of Mahogany resonator. Modified "Flying Eagle" inlay pattern inlaid in double-cut peghead and in flat rosewood fingerboard. Four Keith "Standard" tuning pegs in peghead, Schaller 5th string peg - all with matching ivoroid buttons. Solid pearl truss-rod cover. R.R. spikes installed at 7th and 9th position for 5th-string capo'ing. Bone nut.
This is a really great banjo. It really is a joy to play a banjo and have so much presence and thump and growl. It really does make your sternum resonate while you are playing. Will Williams has  built about 21 or so of these "Kenny Ingram" models, using top grade components and taking care in thoughtfully mating these parts for maximum sound value.
Kenny Ingram used this model extensively for several years when he was touring and recording with "Rhonda Vincent and the Rage".

Fine construction throughout the banjo. Mr Fawley uses a Red Maple 3-ply rim mated to a Faulkner style tone ring made by Kulesh. He also slightly shifts the bridge position another fraction toward the tailpiece, which many people identify as a positive effect on overall sound on a banjo. The neck profile is very elegant and 'slim'. The profile is very close to pre-war original 5-string Gibson neck profiles.
The fit and finish are great, and the sound is the one everyone is after who loves Mahogany banjos... it is strong with good "bounce" and has that perfect growl. I can say without any reservation that this particular banjo is an exceptional banjo for tone.
