New John Walker "Wise River" Maple Guitar 'Sold' |
|
Here is a rare beauty... John Walker's popular "Wise River" guitar, but with highly figured Maple back and sides. 1 3/4" width of fingerboard at nut. Blonde finish. Adirondack Red Spruce top. John has made a couple of these Maple sloped shoulder guitars in the last few years and we have been very impressed by the sound of them.
The rare old original Gibson Maple J-45's and Southern Jumbos from the 1940's always sell quite a bit higher than the standard Mahogany versions from same years. And... they always sound great.
The Maple looks very nice at first glance, but when you look closer the flamed figure begins to appear three diminsional. It is a very striking look.
This guitar has the usual great John Walker appointments: Ebony bridge, fingerboard, peghead overlay and pins. Bone nut and saddle. Waverly Tuners, rift-sawn bridgeplate, tortoise celluloid bindings, to name a few.
It plays easily, and has a great voice.

New John Walker Lolo Creek Custom Guitar 'Sold' |

This is a very beautiful small body guitar. Sunburst top. Honduran Rosewood back and sides, Adirondack Red Spruce top. Mahogany neck with Ebony fingerboard. 1 11/16" width at nut. Abalone soundhole rosette. Fingerboard is bound perfectly by Mr Walker insetting the wood binding into the side of the fingerboard - This method, which is quite a bit more difficult to do, prevents the wood binding being exposed level with fingerboard and subject to picking up dirt and oils from playing. Gold Waverly tuners and matching strap button. Fossilized Walrus Ivory "thru-saddle" and nut.
When this guitar sold, the customer almost immediately purchased another John Walker "Lolo Creek" to complement this one! So, that should give you some idea of how good this guitar is. w/ OHC |

Custom upgrades include Long Scale Length and upgraded Adirondack Red Spruce top. This John Walker "Petty Creek" custom is reminiscent of the old L-00 guitars of the 1930's, but offers a few changes. First, it has a deeper body, and secondly, it has a long scale length. The combination works well to make a clear and focused sound with power.

"As New" condition. Built with a tilt toward the old original Gibson J-185's, this guitar shows off John Walker's considerable skills. 1 11/16" width of fingerboard at nut.
Very highly figured Maple back, sides and neck, with select Spruce top. Neck is 2-pc book-matched Maple with thin Ebony stringer down the centerline. Back of peghead shows tasteful shading toward back of nut (see photos). Tortoise multiple bindings on body, along fingerboard and around peghead. Tortoise heelcap. Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Fingerboard has tasteful pearl 'cut block' inlays. Bridge has straight-thru bone saddle. Gold Waverly tuners with Ebony buttons.
The look of this guitar is quite dramatic. There is a beautiful complement of color between the blonde tones of the Spruce and Maple, the Ebony fittings, and the tortoise trimmings.
As usual, the materials and workmanship are top quality. And the sound is a real treat, too. Quick response with clarity and color and power.
This guitar is just like buying a new one, except that it is several hundred dollars less. No dings, dents or player wear anywhere! The action is nice and low.

This is truly an exquisite instrument from John Walker. A true "Super Jumbo" version by the man who hand built so many of the Prototypes, Customs and the NAMM show display guitars for Gibson during the early and mid-1990's.

This is a fine guitar, indeed. Choice Honduran Mahogany back, sides and neck, with a very nice Adirondack Red Spruce top. Ebony fingerboard, bridge and peghead overlay, with "JWalker" Logo inlaid in pearl, and with small dots inlaid in fingerboard. John makes a nice flourish of style on the back of the neck, where he shades the heel and also cleverly shades the area behind the nut (see photo of Tuners).
John Walker is getting known for his great sunbursts, and this guitar is no exception. It has a beautiful 3-color pre-war style sunburst top that shows tobacco brown outer edge, with red transition and amber center.
Polished bone nut and saddle, with Ebony endpin and bridgepins. Nickel Waverly tuners with ivoroid buttons.
