Beautiful guitar! Coco Bolo back and sides, Adirondack Red Spruce top, and Amazon Mahogany neck. Outer bindings of flamed maple on top, back, along fingerboard and around headstock. Handmade wooden herringbone purflings around top edge and soundhole rosette. Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Cut diamond inlays in fingerboard. Waverly tuners. Bone saddle and nut. 1 3/4" nut width.
Typical of Noble guitars this guitar arrived sounding great, but is already opening up fast. Beautiful sound, with power mixed with elegance, nuance and refinement not easily found in acoustic guitars. w/ OHC* Look closely at the photo of the tuners (back of peghead photo). There is a small knot in the Mahogany neck which shows up as a darker circle, just around the neck from the nut. This is not a problem, but is a slight cosmetic blemish. Because of this, we are offering this guitar at a nice "sale" price. It is a wonderful sounding guitar. |

Coco Bolo sides and back with fabulously figured Western Red Cedar top. Roy built this Coco Bolo guitar without the usual wide triangular Maple wedge in back. Instead he used a narrower strip of Maple for the back strip.

Multiple wood body bindings with flamed Maple outer binding. Hand made wood herringbone purflings on top edge and around soundhole. Flamed Maple binding on fingerboard and headstock.

2008 Roy Noble Coco Bolo Custom Adirondack Red Spruce top Guitar 'Sold' |

Exc(+) condition. This is a fine guitar from Mr Noble. Coco Bolo back and sides, with Figured Maple center wedge in back to attenuate the overtones for a wonderfully balanced sound.
Flamed Maple bindings around top and back, with Herringbone top purfling and around soundhole rosette. Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Fingerboard and Peghead are bound with grained Ivoroid. Cut Diamond inlays in fingerboard. Back of neck is tastefully shaded.
The Coco Bolo, combined with the high grade Adirondack Red Spruce top, sounds great and the result is a tremendous sound with sensitive attack. Even when strung with light gauge strings this guitar fills a room with sound.
There is one small circular mark on the bass side of the neck, just under the binding. This is from Mr Noble drilling and doweling a small knot that was revealed as he shaped the neck profile. The shading caused the circle of the small dowel to stand out a bit.
Set-up with end-pin jack professionally installed, with inside jack coupling for Baggs soundhole pickup (included).

2008 Roy Noble Coco Bolo Custom w/ Adirondack Red Spruce top Guitar 'Sold' |
|
Exc(-) condition. Beautiful Coco Bolo Rosewood back and sides, with Adirondack Red Spruce top. The Coco Bolo back is quite dramatic in that it shows bookmatched sapwood figure in the upper center, as well as a quilted Maple center wedge. Mr. Noble employs the center wedge in the backs of Coco Bolo guitars to attenuate the tonal response of the Coco Bolo. The Maple works to shift the overtones away from being too heavy and ponderous, and creates a more balanced range of overtones that still retain all of the sweetness that Coco Bolo is known for.
The very "silky" Adirondack Spruce top has very tight, very even grain. Handmade Herringbone purflings around soundhole rosette and top edge, with flamed Maple outer bindings on top and back of body. Neck and peghead are bound with ivoroid. Ebony fingerboard and bridge, with cut diamond inlays in fingerboard. Waverly open-back tuners with ivoroid buttons. Bone saddle and nut.
This is an especially fine sounding guitar. It is showing some "finish sink" lines around the Coco Bolo sapwood area on the back, though, and is offered at a lower price to allow for that slight cosmetic flaw. These "finish sink" lines were the same when the guitar was brand new, so the wood is very stable in this area. Please call us for more details. w/ OHC |

Very great sound. Quick response, big voice, and clarity and expression that are hard to find in most guitars but are expected in these handmade Roy Noble guitars.
Roy Noble has been hand-building fine acoustic guitars since 1959. He is a one-man shop. He has no helpers, no apprentices and truly hand-builds guitars of his own design on his own handmade jigs - no CnC machinery.
These guitars 'mic' especially well in live situations, record exceedingly well in the studio, and present beautiful tone whenever played... no fooling... w/ OHC |

New Roy Noble Coco Bolo Dreadnaut Custom w/ Adirondack Red Spruce Top Guitar 'Sold' |

1 3/4" width at nut. Beautiful grained Coco Bolo back and sides, with a very high-grade Adirondack Red Spruce top. Coco Bolo Rosewood is the true "brother" to Brazilian Rosewood - once glance at the grain will show you what I mean. Many luthiers do not use it because the wood is time-consuming to work with. To attenuate the tonal balance of the Coco Bolo back, Mr Noble usually employs a "wedge" piece of Maple in the center of the guitar back, as he has done on this guitar. Over a 15-year period we have enjoyed several score of Roy's Coco Bolo guitars made this way, and we can attest that it works great! It is not done like a Martin D-35, as there is no "A-frame" bracing along the glued back center wedge of Maple.
Flamed Maple outer body bindings, with Roy Noble's handmade wooden Herringbone purfling at top edge and around soundhole. Fingerboard and headstock are bound with grained Ivoroid. Gabon Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Waverly open-back tuners. Brazilian peghead overlay. Cut diamond inlays in fingerboard. Bone nut and saddle, with Ebony pins.
The sound is really great. We've enjoyed 15 years of Coco Bolo guitars from Noble - if you've never one of his, you should really try one out. They are fast attack even with a light touch. They are incredibly dynamic even with light gauge strings. They can be fingerpicked as well as flatpicked. It's just hard to beat a handmade guitar from a guy who has built them for FIFTY YEARS. w/ OHC |

New Roy Noble Coco Bolo Dreadnaut Custom w/ Highly Figured Cedar Top Guitar 'Sold' |
|
1 3/4" width at nut. Beautiful Coco Bolo back and sides. While the back is quarter-sawn and straighter grained, the sides have a very nice "mottling" figure that perfectly sets off the figured Cedar top. The cedar top is dramatically figured throughout, showing various flecks, bearclaw, schmetterling, etc... You just have to hold it in your hands to fully appreciate it.
Flamed Maple outer body bindings with Roy's handmade wooden Herringbone purflings at edge of top and around soundhole. Fingerboard and peghead are bound with grained Ivoroid. Gold Waverly open-back tuners. Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Cut diamond inlays in fingerboard. Bone nut and saddle, with Ebony pins.
The Coco Bolo back has a unique artistic touch by Roy Noble. In addition to his usual center wedge of Flamed Maple, he has inlet a circle across the wedge. We admit that we were startled at first to see it... but after only a day or two we are quite happy with the artistic look of the back, and started wondering why it it isn't done more often?!?!
Noble Coco Bolo guitars are quite popular, with about half of them made with cedar tops. The cedar works exceptionally well with Coco Bolo. This guitar has a fast attack, even with a light touch, and has all the bass you need, balanced with clear singing highs all the way to the last fret. w/ OHC |

Here it is... top of the line Concert guitar from Mr Roy Noble. Basically it is an "OM" guitar, but slightly different curves to the body than historic "OM's" have. High grade AAA Brazilian Rosewood back and sides show a lot of character and color, but still quartersawn. Select creamy Adirondack Red Spruce top with some "bearclaw" figure. Mahogany neck. Gabon Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Pearl "cut diamond" inlays in fingerboard. Ivory nut and saddle. Ebony pins. Gold Waverly open back tuners. 1 3/4" width at nut. 25.25" scale length.
Hand-cut flamed Maple outer body bindings, with Roy Noble's handmade "spiral" wood purflings inside top edge and at soundhole roaette. Neck and peghead bound with ivoroid.

2003 Roy Noble HD 100 Brazilian - AAA Brazilian & Adirondack Spruce top Guitar 'Sold' |
|
Exceptional original condition. These fabulous guitars from Roy Noble represent the finest woods coming together to create an exceptionally lovely sounding guitar. It has a big voice, with great balance, and with as much thunder when you "dig into it", as it has subtlety and nuance when you play it with more finesse...
You already know the score - these high end Brazilian guitars made with high grade backs and tops are priced artificially too low, because of the economy slowing down over last 3 years. The talk from many top makers is that these guitars will spring quickly to $10,000 and beyond... it is really just a question of whether it will do so 'next year' or in a few more years.
It is hard to describe the tones of this guitar. Experienced Roy Noble owners know that when the guitars are about 2-3 years old they open up to such an extent that I find myself thinking that they consistently surpass almost every other instrument I have ever heard, for things like: balance, clarity, sweetness, projection, and expression. You can hear them "down the hall" from the room they are being played in. Naturally it follows that when you add top grades of Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Red Spruce AND Ivory nut, saddle and pins, that you amplify these tonal qualities even further.
Natural 40-year old Ivory nut & saddle, as well as a Bone saddle (currently installed in bridge). Fossil ivory bridge pins and end pin. Gold Waverly tuners. Flamed Maple outer bindings with Herringbone purflings at edge of top. Ebony fingerboard and bridge, with cut diamond inlays in Ebony fingerboard.
Imagine being able to buy an exceptional condition Brazilian guitar from the same luthier who built several for Clarence White to perform and record with, from March 1967 into the early 1970's... That's Roy Noble! w/ OHC |

Anyone who tells you that they can't tell the difference
between Brazilian Rosewood and other Rosewoods has obviously never
played one of these. Roy Noble has extensive experience in building
great Brazilian Rosewood guitars for 50 years.
Microphones love Roy Noble guitars - whether live on-stage, or
in the studio. Many players have recognized this fact over the years.
One of our largest groups of customers over the years have been
recording studios, who tend to buy them as 'house guitars' for use on
recordings. Noble's tone power seems to emanate from the guitar. In a
'guitar jam' you'll notice that the Noble is heard clearly 15 feet away
from the jam circle. All of these above sound qualities are due to the
Noble guitar voicing, which produces a very 'pure' tone that is sure of
itself as it travels through the air to a microphone, or to a listener's
ears. And... this happens because Mr Noble uses great tonewoods and has
voiced every guitar for 50 years, with no helpers and no CnC machinery. |

"AAA" quartersawn Brazilian Rosewood and master grade Adirondack Red Spruce top. Flamed Maple outer body bindings, with handmade herringbone purflings around top edge and soundhole rosette. Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Fingerboard and headstock bound with Ivoroid. Waverly pre-war style open back tuners. Bone nut and saddle, Ebony bridge pins and endpin.
1 47/64" width at nut. 25.25" scale length. This scale length, which is right between 'standard' long scale of 25.4" and 'standard' short scale of 24.9", makes a more relaxed feel when playing and makes light gauge strings feel 'correct', instead of feeling 'too light'...
The sound is great - great attack, and lots of expressive, colorful tone that isn't muddy at all. Great tonal balance from end-to-end of the fingerboard and side-to-side of the fingerboard.
This guitar has one slight repaired "dot" in the finish just under the low E-string, at the bridge front. This is a very small blemish that was repaired by Mr Noble while the guitar was being built. It is hard to spot unless you look for it. w/ OHC |

Flamed Maple multiple outer bindings with Roy's handmade Herringbone wood purfling around top edge and soundhole rosette. Flamed Maple back strip. Bound fingerboard and headstock. Brazilian peghead overlay. This is an outstanding guitar with great sound. I could go on and on about the sound...
Beautiful 'perfect' attack with tonal response that is seldom heard in acoustic guitars. These guitars work well with Medium or Light gauge strings, but I have to say that the sound is actually "bigger and better" for me when using lights. I would never string my Collings, or my 1939 D-18, with lights, but I love lights on Roy Nobles. On Nobles, light strings do not diminish the power at all, but seem to actually increase the subtle nuance and coloring to the overtones in a beneficial way.
* At this time Mr Noble does not have any more Brazilian Rosewood and there is no hint of a source for the near future. w/ OHC |

New Roy Noble Mahogany Dreadnaut DeLuxe w/ Figured Cedar top Guitar 'Sold' |

Wow! This is a pretty startling guitar to look at. Beautiful "ropy" Amazon Mahogany back and sides, with highly figured Cedar top and straight-grained Mahogany neck. We've had many Amazon Mahogany guitars from Mr Noble over the years. The wood is pretty to look at even when brand new... but when you see them after a few years you see the dramatic deepening of the brown, red and gold hues of the Mahogany. They remind you of Koa guitar sets from the 1920's, with the richness of color. To me it is much more beautiful than Mahogany that has been stained red or brown. Ok, enough about the Mahogany...
The Cedar top is a very nice piece of artistic beauty in it's own right. Heavily mottled and flecked with bearclaw, smoky clouds, etc. It is really a fine piece of wood.
1 47/64" width of fingerboard at nut. 25.25" scalelength. Ebony fingerboard and bridge. No inlays in fingerboard. Flamed Maple wood bindings on top and back, with Roy's handmade wooden herringbone purflings inside top edge and in soundhole rosette. Nickel Gotoh tuners. The price on this guitar is artificially low, even in today's economic climate. If this price and my description of the tone and condition doesn't cause you to click and buy this guitar, you might want to see your doctor to check if all your synapse are firing correctly...

We've noticed for years how the Pau Ferro Nobles sound very close to the Brazilian Rosewood Nobles. Many people try to attach "Brazilian Rosewood" characteristics to other Rosewoods that "look" like Brazilian. Pau Ferro does not mimic the look of Brazilian Rosewood, but does have many of the tonal characteristics of Brazilian.
This guitar is set-up with nice action and sounds very nice. Big bold attack, lots of volume... but the best part is the subtle tonal nuance of color and expression. w/ OHC |

New Roy Noble Pau Ferro Dreadnaut DeLuxe Guitar 'Sold' |
|
Another beautiful guitar from Mr Noble! Pau Ferro back and sides. Bearclaw-figured Adirondack Red Spruce top. Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Waverly tuners. The body is bound with Maple outer bindings with Roy's handmade herringbone purflings inside the top edge and around soundhole rosette. Ebony fingerboard and bridge. No inlays in fingerboard. This guitar exhibits the usual Roy Noble tone, with quick attack, great balance, expression, and big projection that cuts through. As we've pointed out to many customers over the years, the Noble guitars don't project from a "forcefulness". They project due to tonal "purity" rather than with "muscle". They really are a treat to play and hear. w/ OHC |
