mid-1970's OME A Mandolin 'In Stock'
VG(+) Condition. The top has a few knicks and dings, and one area where some player wear has been touched up unprofessionally on the treble side. The back and sides are in mostly good shape with minor scratches and dings. There are a couple of small areas on the back of the neck where the finish has been rubbed away, but there are no dents or dings.
Spruce top with sunburst finish and multiple Ivoroid bindings. Maple back, sides and neck. Back and sides have single Ivoroid binding. Ebony fretboard with pearl dot inlays. Original engraved nickel tailpiece. "OME" logo and flowerpot inlays in headstock. 1 3/16" width at nut. Strap button installed on heel cap.
For some time in the 1970's, Michael Kimnetzer (Nugget Mandolins), worked at the OME shop in Boulder, Colorado. Perhaps partly because he already had a background in making good mandolins, OME made a decision to produce some mandolins. Michael Kimnetzer did work on designing these mandolins and also built jigs and tooling for the project. Furthermore, Michael tells me he handbuilt 5 prototypes at their shop. The original 5 OME mandolin prototypes made by Michael Kimnetzer are ALL accounted for, with 3 still in the hands of the original owners. This nice example we are selling here was NOT built by Mr Kimnetzer, but was built at OME on Mr Kimnetzer's tooling...
There is no serial number, no information under the top, etc, that we can find.
Nice tone with a dark and very woody sound. Just came back from the shop with nice new fret job and new nut.
