New Prucha A-5 Mandolin 'Sold'

One-pc Maple back, Maple sides and neck. Select German Spruce top. Radiused Ebony fingerboard with dot inlay. Ebony peghead overlay with elaborate abalone Fern inlay and abalone truss-rod cover. Gold Gotoh tuners with ivoroid buttons. Gold 2-pc engraved Prucha tailpiece. Ebony 2-pc bridge with gold thumbwheels. Multiple tortoise/white/black bindings on top, back, along fingerboard and around peghead.
These bindings are quite nice, with the white inner strip insuring that the tortoise comes "alive" with color by reflecting the light back thru the tortoise layer. You see the multiple lines on all quarters (sides AND top/back).
1 1/8" width at nut. Matte nitro-cellulose finish and a beautiful sunburst color.
Remarkable sound. Anyone who has a Prucha mandolin that is a few years old knows how great they are and how they develop over time. This one has especially good tone even as a brand new mandolin...

2000 Prucha A-5 Mandolin 'Sold'

Exc(-) condition. This mandolin is really in great playing condition, but has just a few things to mention that make it "exc(-)" condition instead of "exc" condition: The fingerboard extension was cut off cleanly and professionally at the 23rd fret (almost the exact way Sam Bush did his famous old Gibson F); There are a few light dings here and there on the top and sides of the mandolin, with one larger compression mar on the top, located 2" below treble side of bridge; And, there is some moderate fret wear, but not buzzing when played.
Very nice highly figured Maple back, sides and neck. German Spruce top. Ebony flat fingerboard with pearl dot inlays. Ebony peghead overlay, with Prucha logo and floral pattern pearl inlay. Nickel Schaller tuners. Nickel Prucha 2-pc tailpiece. Ebony adjustable 'Loar style' 2-piece bridge. Strap button professionally installed in side of neck heel.
This is a great sounding mandolin! It was sold originally to an employee here at our store who selected it after trying out many mandolins that were coming thru our store. A new mandolin like this one sells now for between $3600 and $3850, depending on options, so this one has all the sound, is in very good playing condition, and sounds like a champ, for hundreds less than a new one than a new one.

2000 Prucha A-5 Mandolin 'Sold'

Exc(+) condition. Very clean. Almost no sign of being owned or played. Highly figured Maple back, sides and neck. German Spruce top. Flat Rosewood fingerboard with traditional fingerboard extension scalloped. Fully bound, with multiple bindings on top, back and along fingerboard. Nickel plated Schaller tuners and 2-pc tailpiece. This mandolin is in great original condition and has a great sound. Many times in our shop we have witnessed experienced players buying our Prucha mandolins over more major brands, even when the Pruchas cost a little more. Believe me... they are worth a try. This mandolin would cost over $3500 if ordered as a new mandolin.

2002 Prucha A-5 Mandolin 'Sold'

     Exceptional condition.
Beautiful amber sunburst. Highly figured Maple back, sides and neck. German spruce top. Flat rosewood fingerboard. Ebony bridge. Multiple Ivoroid bindings on top and back edge of body, along fingerboard and around peghead. Nice "V" neck with the peak nicely sculpted, not too sharp.

The sound is very mature and strong. I know it can be hard for you to find Prucha mandolins to listen to, as there are low numbers of Prucha mandolins in America. These low numbers are the result of the instruments being so handmade. Jaroslav Prucha and his son, John, build these mandolins with care and precision. Great sound.
