Recent Beard "Road-O-Phonic" Resophonic 'Sold'

Great original condition recent maple body Road-O-Phonic #095. This guitar has minimal player wear. Owned by a great friend of ours who has way too many instruments, this is a nice one. Highly figured Maple body and neck, and really great sound, even acoustically. Not quite powerful enough acoustically to go without amp on stage, but certainly good sound for acoustic practice. Two pickups, one Lace Sensor single coil at neck position and one Fishman pro in the saddle. Stereo jack allows you to use stereo cable to blender/mixer, OR use stereo "Y" cable that splits into separate channel input jacks.  A stereo "Y" cable is included with the instrument, along with strap lock system. Comes with original papers and hang tags, including open warranty card.

Beard E Model 1

c.2003 Beard E Model - 7 String - Resophonic 'Sold'

Exceptional Original Condition. Just coming in from one of our favorite long-term customers. No signs of abuse, no signs of wear! Looks just like one you would receive new from Paul Beard. Usually built with the smaller "R" body, this custom-ordered guitar has the beautiful solid Mahogany construction, but in the larger "E" body. The 7-string is unique in that it uses a specially designed asymmetrical spider with the screw shifted off center, to allow 4 strings on one side of saddle and 3 on the other side. Beard also sets up the 7-string to have standard spacing at nut and saddle. Comes with factory installed Fishman pickup. Great workmanship, great materials and great sound. At today's prices, this instrument would cost $3900 to order as a new guitar.

Beard Gold Tone 1
View Detail
2009 Beard Gold Tone Signature - Solid Mahogany Resophonic 'Sold'

Excellent original condition. Some signs of prior ownership and playing, but very light.
Solid Mahogany construction - back, sides, top and neck. Squareneck.
These instruments were designed by Paul Beard. The wood body and neck is built under contract by Gold Tone. The "naked" guitars are then sent to Beard for fitting out with his high-grade resonator cone, spider bridge, saddle and nut.
These have a consistent sound that is very good. No, they don't "beat" the full-blown Beard models for overall sound and presence, but they beat just about every other model we've seen that sells for $1000 or under.

Beard Gold Tone - Paul Beard Signature 1

New Beard Gold Tone - Paul Beard Signature All Solid Mahogany Resophonic 'Sold'

     New.
Solid Mahogany top, back, sides and neck. Ebony fingerboard. 5-ply bindings around edge of the Mahogany top, with outer bindings of flamed Maple. Back, fingerboard and headstock are all bound with single flamed Maple. Cut diamond inlays. Nice Mahogany with attractive grain... and it certainly looks great with the nice sunburst finish. Nickel hardware.
This guitar has Paul Beard's set-up from his shop, which is a bit of an upgrade to the versions that come straight from Gold Tone.
     * This instrument IS brand new... But it has a very minor flaw... During shipping to us from Beard, the guitar sustained a small crack in the back, near the binding on the treble side of the back. This crack is about 2" in length. It appears that the crack is mainly in the finish, but may be a surface check in the Mahogany. It does not affect the sound or playability. The crack is not all the way thru the solid Mahogany back. If you can live with this blemish you will be very happy with the price.
Plays great, sounds big and full, and is ready to go with good hard case, for about 30% less than you pay for a new one. Price is for instrument only - we have official Beard Hard Case for instrument for $120.

Beard Jerry Douglas 1
View Detail
New Beard Jerry Douglas Signature Model Resophonic 'Sold'

Here is the long-awaited "Jerry Douglas" signature model from Paul Beard. This guitar was 3 or 4 years in the making, with Douglas being very particular about which instrument would bear his name, and how it would be made, how it would sound, etc.
Made somewhat along the idea of the Mike Auldridge model, but with some modifications to accomodate solid Mahogany and solid figured Sapelle woods.
Beautiful construction, with nice Mahogany back, sides, neck and highly figured Sapelle top. Tasteful bindings and inlays - heck, it just looks great!
True to the exact sound of Jerry Douglas' personal guitar, this one comes set-up with Fishman "Aura" pickup and effects system.
This system is being described as the most important new pickup/processing technology in many years. Instead of just listening to your guitar and reproducing the sound, this system actually compares your guitar to pre-recorded sounds of Jerry Douglas playing these same guitars in a studio. Then it sways your tone toward the shape of Douglas' tone - it doesn't substitute it, it just causes your note to mimic his tone closer...
*I hope I said that right...
The case is a custom Cedar Creek, by TKL, and is strikingly beautiful.
The guitar and case sell for $5250 with case & warranty. Add the Fishman "Aura" Pickup and Processing (this guitar comes with it installed), for $500, to make it $5750 with everything mentioned above... plus a Beard Strap and EG Smith Stainless Bar.

Cherry Sunburst Finish. Just like the black versions, but with dark-edged cherry sunburst. Great sound. I have witnessed several very serious lifelong "Dobroists" have their whole world changed by hearing these Mike Auldridge models. The whole secret behind their sound is the body design, coupled with "tuning" the interior individually. Each instrument is handmade by Paul Beard and each instrument is individually tested and played by Mike Auldridge before it is shipped out to dealers... Photos below are of our previous instrument.

Beard Odyssey E Model 1

New Beard Odyssey E Model w/ Fishman Pro P/U Resophonic 'Sold'

New. This is the newest addition to Beard's repertoire of professional reso guitars. While it still fits in with the other Beard models quite well, it does exhibit some interesting new design concepts, both visually and tonally. All Solid Wood construction, like most Beard Model E guitars, but this one has beautiful Mahogany back, sides and neck and an extremely nice solid Spruce top.
Multiple wooden bindings throughout, with Flamed Maple outer bindings, on top and back edge, along fingerboard and around headstock. Stylized cut diamond pattern pearl inlays in Ebony fingerboard. Waverly pre-war style tuners. Custom-made "Solar" coverplate. Single oval soundhole in center of top at end of fingerboard.
Everything is 'tip-top' about this guitar. The colors are very tasteful. The Red-Brown of the Mahogany is perfectly mated to the slightly antique'd blonde Spruce top. As a bonus, you can look into the soundhole to get a look at the great construction of the sound baffling.
In short, this is a truly great reso guitar for looks, for construction, for feel, and for tone. It sounds very big and full just as it is, acoustically, but it is set-up up by Paul Beard with a Fishman pro sadle pickup, which is a great pickup for use with the Fishman Aura Imaging system.
     * Also available to order with other wood combinations (All flamed Maple, All Mahogany, Walnut-Spruce, etc).

New Beard Vintage R Resophonic 'Sold'

     New.
Birch plywood body with open soundwell. Solid Mahogany neck with Ebony fingerboard. Body and neck have sunburst finish. 25" scale length.
These Beard "Vintage R" models have simple appointments, but as far as soundpower, they are equal with other more expensive models. The "traditional" part of the name refers to the Birch ply construction. Most of the original Dobros were made with Birch plywood. But Paul Beard has adjusted the soundwell differently than the early Dobros by opening-up the front and back of the soundwell.
Whenever we travel to shows and festivals we try to have as many Beard instruments as we can. Sometimes we may have a Traditional R, a Model E, a Mike Auldridge, etc, to show. Every time players comment on how the $2200 Vintage R plays/performs/sounds even up against the $3200 - $4000 models!
So - if you are looking for a well-made hot sounding and affordable Resophonic... here it is...!
