This 1917 pumpkin top Gibson A model mandolin is one of the nicest examples you’ll find.  The old shellac finish is entirely original and in great shape.  All original parts.  Birch back and sides, very nice Spruce top, Mahogany neck.  Paddle peghead with Ebony overlay.  No logos or decorative inlay in peghead.  The nut is possibly the original.  Flat Ebony fingerboard with pearl dot inlays.  The original small prets are original and in great condition.  There is slight wear in the frets.

The top is very interesting to a wood fanatic, like me.  I think it is either Red Spruce or Englemann Spruce… and it has lots of character from not only the grain, but also because the two sides of the top are not bookmatched.  Top bound with single ivoroid binding.  Oval soundhole has houndstooth wooden marquetry rosette and bound inside edge.  Original tortoise plate pickguard with all original attaching hardware.  Currently has a later adjustable 2-pc bridge, but the original is residing in the original hard case.  Original nickel engraved 2-pc tailpiece with base and cover in very good shape.  Appears to be original Ebony endpin.  Original nickel tuners with original cream buttons.

This mandolin has great sound and playability.  It has no problems, has no repairs, and is ready to play.
Comes with the original hard case.
