Ok… here is a really nice one. This 1924 Gibson F-4 mandolin w/ Virzi has been in a mandolin collection for years and years. It is in very nice condition, and would be rated “exceptional” except that there are some nicks in the finish on front and back of peghead. The finish is in great shape and has a perfect lustre, but just some nicks in peghead finish. The finish on back of peghead is mostly just wear from leaning against walls over time. Back of neck, and top, sides and back of mandolin show vibrant finish. There are two elliptical areas of wear thru the finish in first position,

Ebony peghead veneer has The Gibson script pearl logo inlaid at top, with traditional Flowerpot in center and original truss-rod cover and screws near nut. Pearl nut. Flat Ebony fingerboard with large pearl dot inlays. Dark dots inset along side of fingerboard as position markers. Fingerboard has double-cut extension. Peghead and fingerboard are bound with single ply ivoroid binding. This same grained ivoroid binding is around top edge, back edge, and at soundhole rosette, between houndstooth borders. Inside of soundhole also bound with ivoroid.

Tuners are nickel 4-on-a-plate tuners with original brown celluloid buttons, all in nice condition. Pickguard is as nice as you’ll see – no waver, no repairs to it, no parts replaced, etc. Same with the bridge. It is so clean it looks like a much newer bridge. The Shellac finish is vibrant with the bright F-4 Sunburst exploding out of it.

Everything is in nice condition… There have been no repairs. All the bindings are intact and in fine condition, all around the top and back of scroll, around the points, and around the fingerboard.
The tuners all have straight shafts and no cracking buttons.
Comes with well worn old original F-4 case and a more modern case, as well.
