Here is a big sounding D-18 with all the playability and all the characteristic sound that you expect from these instruments that are often described as cannons.
Un-cracked top with generous wear and overspray. Adirondack Red Spruce for sure. Cuban Mahogany back, sides and neck. Top shows impression where larger bridge had been installed. Original pickguard. Soundhole has had some worn fragmented wood cut away, causing a slightly elliptical shape to the inside of soundhole (see photos). This chipped inside lip of soundhole is similar to what happened to Clarence White’s old D-28 that is now owned by Tony Rice.
Original Ebony fingerboard with some filled finger divots from playing wear. Original graduated dot inlays. Original Brazilian Rosewood peghead overlay and finish with overspray top layer. Back of neck shows old signs of dings underneath new coat of finish. Back of peghead oversprayed. Original tuners have been upgraded to made in Montana Waverly open-back tuners.
Unconventional strap attachment device installed in heel and a similar item was probably installed at end pin but has been removed, leaving small holes. Guitar back has several back cracks repaired. Inside of guitar has generous glue from previous repairs. Sides and back have several repairs that can be discussed in more detail by phone.
We stress that this guitar has the signature “boom” and huge volume and presence/projection that you expect from a wartime D-18. It is lightweight and packs a punch.
