Description

Exceptional Vintage Condition  /  Original Case
Factory Order: T5954 32  /  All Original

This Sunburst 1958 Gibson ES-225 TD guitar is in extremely rare, excellent original condition. It includes the original hard-shell case.

The ES-225 was the first thinline hollowbody guitar produced by Gibson, and they only made 2,754 of these double-pickup ES-225TDs. It’s hard to imagine how this guitar made it 65 years in such beautiful condition! Even the pickguard and tuners are in great shape! The lacquer is in original and extraordinary condition i.e. not checked like you typically see on Gibsons of this era. This is about as clean and original as they come – a real time capsule!

The neck is a comfortable chunky C shape and topped with a Brazilian rosewood board with celluloid binding, which has aged to a vintage cream color. The fingerboard is in excellent condition and features pearloid dot inlays. Frets are in great shape – they may have been professionally replaced at one point, but it is difficult to say for certain. If they were, it was a pro job.

The headstock has the “Gibson” pearl inlay, original truss rod cover, what appears to be the original nut, and original Kluson Deluxe Tuners.

Electronics include original 3-way switch, original P90 pickups with original pole-pieces and covers, original wiring, original pots and knobs, original output jack, etc.

Double bound, fully hollow body with tobacco sunburst finish, Florentine cutaway, and f-holes. Original trapeze combination tailpiece/bridge and strap buttons.

Original hard case in great cosmetic shape. Fully functional with all latches working excellently.

This golden-era Gibson hollow-body sounds and plays great – It’s ready for another 65 years!
