Description

Exc(+) condition.  SN#0 6726.
Gold hardware.  Original Black Case.
Neck p/u not original.

This is a very nice and very original 1960 Gibson Les Paul Custom “Black Beauty”. Black lacquer is in wonderful condition, with only a few touch marks. Original gold hardware and original frets.

This guitar is fully bound with antique’d outer white bindings. These bindings show multiple lines of purfling – top has 7-ply, back edge and peghead have 5-ply. Single ply along fingerboard. There is some slight wear on the fingerboard around the inlay between 2nd and 3rd fret (see detail photo) but hard to notice and does not impact playing. See also detail photo of small black touch-up on top near binding.
Peghead is essentially a “Super 400” peghead with Gibson logo at top and large pearl triangles and rectangular bar in center. Original black-on-white trussrod cover with Les Paul Custom engraved. Original gold Grover Pat. Pend. tuners. All screws, back plates, etc., are original and in great shape.
Ebony fingerboard has “L-5” style large pearl block inlays. Original pickguard is 4-ply (blk/wh/blk/wh). 3-pickup configuration with tune-a-matic bridge and stop tailpiece. Original strap buttons.

Wiring harness is original and intact, except for neck pickup. Bridge and middle p/u are PAF Humbucking; Neck p/u is Gibson “Patent” Humbucking.
This later p/u… the neck p/u, sounds gorgeous. Be happy the neck pickup has been changed out. If it were original, this guitar and case would be selling for $65K-$70K. So, if you can live with great tone from the replaced neck pickup, you can buy this one for much less.
