No Cracks!  /  Brazilian Rosewood

This 1967 Martin D-21 is a Brazilian Rosewood dreadnaut guitar that has appointments like a D-18. Rosewood back and sides as well as Brazilian RW peghead overlay, fingerboard and bridge. Tortoise bindings around body, with extra purfling strips inside top edge. Graduated dot inlays in FB. Appears to be Red Spruce top.

There is some marring of upper shoulder (treble side), of top, but no cracks in the body or neck.
The pickguard was repositioned slightly further in from soundhole edge.
These rare original D-21’s seem to always sound snappier than the same year D-28’s. They sound much crisper in the attack than D-28’s do. D-21s are sometimes referred to as “Brazilian Rosewood D-18’s” because of this crisp clean sound. This one is no exception to that rule… it delivers quick attack and full presence.

Here is an audio clip of Matt Rieger from the Lil’ Smokies exploring the D-21.

And below, a video clip our friend and vintage Martin aficionado Richie Reinholdt enjoying this fine instrument.
