This 1981 Martin HD-28 is a great sounding dreadnought in nice playing shape. It has a good amount of player wear and a few crack repairs. Spruce top, rounded “V” profile neck, and Indian Rosewood back and sides.
The Rosewood peghead overlay has the standard “Martin & Co. EST. 1833” decal at the top. Nickel Waverly tuners with lobed buttons. Bone Nut. The Ebony fingerboard has pearl dot inlays and cream side dot position markers. The rounded “V” profile neck is shaped very nicely, with only a few light dings. Diamond volute, cream heelcap. Nickel strap button installed.
The Spruce top has scattered dings and scratches, as well as four professionally repaired cracks. Ebony bridge with bone bridge pins and saddle. The soundhole is larger than a typical D-28. It was recut after it left the factory by a highly professional local Luthier. We believe this work greatly enhanced the sound of this dreadnought. Tortoise pickguard, and herringbone purfling before the cream binding on the top edge. The Indian Rosewood back and sides show similar player wear to the top, with a fair amount of dings and scratches. Two-piece back separated by a “Zipper” backstrip. Creem end wedge with end pin installed.
This 1981 Martin HD-28 with a large soundhole is a very powerful instrument. This guitar was owned by one of the most talented guitarists around Missoula. It has definitely been played, which means it shows a good amount of player wear, but it also means it is fully opened up and sounds great. Comes with the original hard case.
