This 1982 Steven Anderson Koa Dreadnaut Guitar is a rare find.  A one-owner guitar, this guitar was one of the favorites of a well-known local collector and player.  The Engelmann Spruce top has the perfect iced tea sunburst finish that complements the honey-brown Koa back and sides and the Mahogany neck.  Completely bound with tasteful multiple grained ivoroid bindings, seen on top, back edges and along sides of body and peghead.  Wooden herringbone purflings along top inside edge.  Fingerboard has single ivoroid bindings.  Multiple ivoroid end wedge.  Ebony heelcap.  Ebony peghead with SA logo inlaid at top.  Gold Schaller closed-back tuners.  Ebony fingerboard has cut diamond abalone inlays.

Soundhole rosette is very tasteful multiple layers of thin wood purfling.  Red tortoise plastic pickguard.  Ebony bridge with boxed bone saddle and bone pins.  Bone nut.  Ebony endpin.
There is some evidence of button marks on back of guitar. You don’t see it clearly from some angles of light, but can see it more clearly from other angles.  It isn’t anything that would bother me, if it were mine.  The beautiful grained Spruce top has some small dings and a smattering of finish checking.

The sound is full, powerful and round, with an enunciated attack.  This is a seriously big sounding guitar, with very mature tones and a quick attack.  Most Koa dreadnauts don’t have this sort of agility, sparkle and depth.  The attack is quick, but not shallow.  It gives one the sense that the notes are being bounced off the back of the guitar in a pleasing way.

Comes with original hard case (OHC)
