This 1988 R.L. Givens A-3 mandolin is quite a find. It is amazingly in original condition with all the original parts and the case. Frets appear to be original and in peak condition as well.
It does have one repaired f-hole crack that was professionally repaired with excellent cosmetic touch-up that almost makes the repair disappear. No other repairs.

Faded Sheraton brown color with Maple back and sides. Engelmann Spruce top harvested in North Idaho by Bob Givens, himself. The Maple shows heavy tiger striping in the sides, while the two-pc back has wonderful figure that is buried in layers that reveal themselves when you tilt the mandolin. The Engelmann Spruce is a fine set with very close, even grain.

The “Snakehead” Ebony peghead overlay has decal at top of a floral pattern with initials, “RLG” in its center. Bone nut. Nickel Schaller tuners with pearloid buttons. Radiused Ebony fingerboard has large pearl dot position markers in the center and tiny ivoroid side dots. Large frets appear original, and in great shape with no dents. Original Givens handmade 2-pc Loar-style adjustable bridge. Two piece nickel tailpiece.

Ivoroid bindings around top and back edge of body.

This is a real sweet mandolin, with lots of projection and strength to fill up a room, even if played lightly. Lots of depth and lyrical highs.
