This 1988 Givens A-6 mandolin was hand built by Bob Givens. This model, the A-6, is possibly his most famous mandolin. Beginning in 1986 or so, Bob Givens designed the A-6 to be his top of the line “A” mandolin. At this same time Bob had refined his graduations and voicings to produce what is arguably among the finest tones available in a mandolin. These A-6 models, as well as the lower priced A-4 and A-3’s that he made, are highly sought after even thirty years after his death. Traditionally made from domestic figured maple back, sides, and neck, and very nice Engelmann Spruce. Handmade wooden abbreviated pickguard.

The mandolin is fully multiple bound…
The Ebony peghead overlay is bound with Ivoroid outer binding, showing a black accent line inside the face and side. Blackened back of peghead. Gold Schaller tuners with pearloid buttons. Original gold two-piece tailpiece with almost all the gold worn off from arm wear. Appears to be an Ivory nut. Radiused Gabon Ebony radiused finger with medium-small frets and hand cut “snowflake” inlays. The last few frets on the fingerboard are scalloped away, with the fingerboard fretted through the 21st fret. The fingerboard is bound with Ivoroid showing a black accent line on the sides. Original hand made R.L. Givens two-piece adjustable bridge. Matching Ebony endpin and strap button. Beautiful Reddish-Amber sunburst. The top and back edge of the mandolin body are bound with grained Ivoroid outer bindings with black accent lines seen from the top, sides, and back.

There is some wear on this mandolin right where the pickguard would be, and a few small dings around the face of the mandolin. The back of the neck show’s some wear through the finish on the first position. The frets have had a recent professional milling and dressing, so they are in wonderful shape.
Photos show the mandolin with and without the pickguard installed.

This mandolin has a very strong sound, it fills the room with only a light touch. Comes with a really good hard shell case.
