This 1989 R.L. Givens F-5 Mandolin has a lot going for it. It is in great original condition and plays and sounds fabulous.

This Givens is a prime example of one of the later Bob Givens mandolins before he died in the early 90’s. He only made made 20-30 F-5’s between 1989 and when he died. These F-5’s have a very distinctive look, they are always a red/gold sunburst. There are three different types of inlays on the Givens F-5’s; this Givens has the rarest of the three, which is called the “wheat straw” inlay. The “wheat straw” inlay is using pearl and abalone in a cleaver design

This Givens has highly highly figured maple back, sides and neck with an Engelmann Spruce top. Fully multiple bound. The Ebony peghead veneer has R.L. Givens script logo pearl inlay at top and “wheat straw” inlay in the center. This mandolin has gold Schaller tuners. There is a bone nut. Has original frets that are not much worn. There is a slight bit of fret denting below the first two strings, but not very deep at all. Has radiused Gabon Ebony fingerboard that has a double cut extension. It has hand engraved snowflake inlays in the fingerboard. It has a newer lore style two-piece adjustable bridge with gold spinners. Has a gold two-piece tailpiece. Has Ebony endpin. The peghead is multiple bound with Ivoroid bindings at the corner, and below that binding is a black line. On the face there is an extra black Ivoroid  line of purfling. The fingerboard is bound showing a black line below the Ivoroid binding. The top has Ivoroid bindings showing a black Ivoroid extra line on the face, and so does the back. The sides show a black line below the Ivoroid binding. Two-piece bookmatched back.
