This is a rare banjo, as it is the ONLY custom banjo like this with the ODE brand.

This 1991 ODE Maple Presentation Banjo is one of the rarest banjos ever produced with the ODE name. It is an amazing banjo with some of the most tastefully ornate appointments. The Maple is old cured hard Maple with nice figure in the neck and resonator. Many high end techniques are used to showcase this wood in the best possible way. The neck is two-piece Maple with a center piece of dark, light, dark wood as stringer along the neck. The neck is also elaborately carved in the back of the peghead, and from the 10th fret through the heel; the back of the resonator is solid bookmatched Maple, with the center being heavily carved with a floral pattern. The rim is a 3/4″ Maple rim, nicely appointed with ivoroid bindings on the inside and outside of the bottom of the rim. The very bottom of the rim is blackened.

The elaborate peghead veneer is fully bound and is situated above with the same dark, light, dark wood layers as seen in the back center of the neck. This Ebony peghead veneer is inlayed with the “ODE” logo near the top, and the peghead is filled in with beautiful abalone inlays that mimic the floral carving and other inlays in the neck. Ivory nut. The Ebony fingerboard has beautiful large abalone inlays- see photos. The frets are in nice shape with only minimal wear shown on the first five frets. The fingerboard is bound with grained Ivoroid binding. The last fret shows an engraved block “Frank E. Peretti”, the original owners name. The fingerboard shows beautiful Abalone on each side below the grained Ivoroid binding. The back of the neck is elaborately carved from the 10th fret through the end of the heel. The Ebony heel cap completes the neck, as it is inlayed and has Ivoroid binding and Abalone purfling. Tuners are four matching gold Keith D-tuners with milky pearloid buttons. Waverly fifth with gold tuner with pearloid button. These Keith tuners alone are worth several hundred dollars.

20-hole flathead tone ring. Shoe-and-plate construction. Railroad spikes professionally installed for capo’ing at 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12.

All parts are original, and all parts are gold-plated. Many parts are highly engraved with deep-gouge engraving and gold plating. Much of the hardware, including the top and side of tension hoop, the exposed side of the tone ring, the face of the plate flange, the top and the side of the armrest, the base and the cover of the tailpiece, even the four thumbscrews are all elaborately engraved. Currently mounted with a Fiberskyn head.

The entire banjo is colored and finished beautiful, with a handsome deep vivid amber finish.

*The repair: this banjo was in a car that was involved in an accident. This beautiful unique neck cracked around the 5th-6th fret. The wood crack was lovingly repaired by our longtime master luthier John Joyner. The finish was cosmetically touched-up and blended by Eric Daw. The job was beautiful, as you can barely see the repair, and certainly can’t feel it. Greg Boyd personally guarantees this repair. It will never come apart again (at the same place).

This banjo sounds great and is one of the most beautiful instruments we have seen in the store in a very long time. If ordered today, this banjo would cost $14,000-16,000.

Comes with original hard case.
