One of the most popular of all Martin guitars is the tried and true D-28. This 1998 Martin HD-28 VR represents a more “hot” version of the D-28. The D-28 offers a good Rosewood body with Spruce top… but the “HD” series and the “V” or “VR” designates the braces are scalloped, and the braces are ‘advanced’ to cross each other further away from the bridge and bridgeplate for a more enunciated attack with more power. There are also some great options to finalize the look: aging toner, antigue’ing the lacquer, open-back pre-war style tuners, herringbone bindings, cut diamond fretboard inlays, etc.

Indian Rosewood back and sides, Sitka Spruce top and Mahogany neck. Rosewood peghead overlay with CFMartin decal logo at top. Ebony fingerboard with cut diamond inlays. Ebony bridge with cut-thru bone saddle. Bone nut. Tortoise plastic pickguard. Bone nut. Endpin jack installed at endpin (pickup previously removed). Ivoroid bindings, endwedge and heelcap. Top shows Ivoroid outer bindings, with wooden herringbone purfling inside top edge. Back binding is 3-ply ivoroid. Back has wooden marquetry “zipper” strip inset along centerline.

Top shows evidence of center seam re-glued between bridge down to binding. Top has no big wear, no problems to fix. There are small touch-marks and dings in the Spruce top, mostly below bridge. Neck is in great shape, with only some cursory wear on first position frets and some slight dings behind neck at first position.

What a good snappy flatpicking guitar. This guitar was originally purchased because of its tone being a cut above others. If you play it, you’ll hear why. Good quick attack with big growl and presence.
Comes with good Hard Case.
