This custom Pau Ferro Dreadnaut guitar built by Roy Noble in 2002 epitomizes the old world “single luthier” guitar. Everything on this guitar was built by Roy Noble in his shop, except the made-in-Montana gold Waverly tuners and the bridge pins. Even the wooden herringbone purfling around inside top edge and soundhole rosette is handmade by Mr. Noble. Roy stopped building guitars in about 2014 and sadly, he passed in early 2019.

This fine and powerful dreadnaut guitar is called a “custom” because it is fully bound. Peghead and fingerboard are bound with ivoroid celluloid, while the top and back are bound with flamed Maple bindings. Flamed Maple heel cap, end wedge and back strip. Cocobolo peghead overlay with Maple and pearl truss rod cover. Fossilized ivory nut. Radiused blank Ebony fingerboard. Typical dark side dots in Ivoroid binding on bass side of fingerboard. Master-grade Spruce top.  Cocobolo bridge with bone saddle and Ebony pins. Tortoise pickguard. Pickup professionally installed in guitar with endpin jack.

Mr. Noble employed Pau Ferro (a Central and So. American Ironwood), for guitar backs and sides for years. We noticed it had a closely similar tone to Brazilian Rosewood guitars made by Roy Noble, and we’ve been known to call it “the working man’s Brazilian”.

There are three repaired cracks in the top. These are professionally done, and are not prominently seen.  If you have a hard time seeing them in the photographs, please call and we’ll point them out. No cracks in the sides or back. No wear on back of neck. Some signs of fret wear on treble strings and slight pickwear between strings below soundhole.

Outstanding sound. Very punchy with great character and balance. Comes with original hard case.
