Jaroslav Prucha has used the “Legend” banjo model to represent banjos similar to what certain famous stars play. These models include Legend Mahogany, meant to represent an old RB-3 or an old RB-75. Maple banjos with nice figure and sunbursts could be made like an Earl Scruggs or a Grenada. Following this thought this 2004 Prucha Legend Custom Walnut banjo is made like a radiused fingerboard RB-4 with Ebony fretboard.

Prucha has chosen fine Walnut for this banjo, with the neck being nice, straight grain with a beautiful look and a burled Walnut resonator. Bindings are similar to an old RB-4, but instead of white/blk/wh they are ivoroid/blk/ivo around resonator top and back and along fingerboard. On the resonator the binding shows the center black line on top edge, back edge, and upper and lower of side edges. Black line is seen alongside sides of resonator. Also true to RB-4 designs, this banjo has a double cut peg head and flying eagle inlay pattern. R.R. spikes installed by Prucha at 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th frets for 5th string capo’ing. Nickel hardware including H&K tuners at 1st and 4th, Keith D-Tuners at 2nd and 3rd, and Schaller 5th peg. Nickel parts including one piece pot-metal flange, Prucha/Ptacek pre-war style bell-bronze tone ring, Two hump clam-shell tailpiece.

This banjo is in excellent playing condition with recent, professional fret work, new head and bridge, and set-up. This banjo is pretty nice condition-wise, very slight dings at top of peg head. There are a couple of places with marks on the resonator sidewall and light button marks on back of resonator. This is a fine banjo, if ordered today it would cost over $4,000.
