This 2005 Roy Noble Pau Ferro Dreadnaut guitar is quite nice. Roy Noble guitars are famous for their tonal performance – for power and projection and for subtle nuance. This one is no different.
Pau Ferro (a true Iron Wood), has been used by Mr Noble for quite a few guitars. They’ve always seemed to me to be the closest sounding tonewood to Brazilian Rosewood… Coupled with a high-grade Adirondack Red Spruce top, the sound is great. Strong all the way up the neck, with viable notes from anywhere on the fingerboard. Braces are Englemann Spruce!

Colorful straight-grained Pau Ferro back and sides, high-grade Adirondack Red Spruce top, and Amazon Mahogany neck. Rosewood peghead overlay with Roy’s distinctive slanted line across peghead face and Maple “Noble” truss-rod cover. Bone nut. Gabon Ebony blank fingerboard. Roy’s Handmade wooden Herringbone purflings around top edge of guitar and soundhole rosette. Flamed Maple bindings around top and back edges of body, heelcap, and end wedge. Tortoise celluloid pickguard. Gabon Ebony bridge. Ebony bridge pins. Bone endpin. Strap button professionally installed in correct position on neck heel.

This is a great guitar. Anyone with an ear for tone can recognize the special tonal aspects of this guitar. Suitable for any studio or any stage. Noble guitars are known for “eating up” microphones… meaning they are easily heard in the microphone. They have a strong recording history since the early 1960’s. In a big guitar jam, you are likely to hear a Noble clearer than a 1940’s Martin that is in the same jam.

Everything about this guitar is good. There isn’t even any fret wear to mention! Buy one and see for yourself why Clarence White had FOUR of them and why Billy Strings has used a Noble for years.
* There are no new Roy Noble guitars, as Mr Noble retired from building guitars in about 2013.
