SN: 201307-18  /  1 3/16″ nut

Mike Black A-4 Oval Hole Mandolin. This is an exceptional mandolin. It is designed very much like a snakehead Gibson A-4.

Snakehead style peghead with ebony veneer on the front and back. The front has a mother of pearl “Black” script inlay. There is also an abalone and mother of pearl Fleur de Lis. Truss rod access at peghead. Bone nut.

Gaboon Ebony radius Fingerboard with full size frets and medium pearl dot inlays. The fingerboard has an abbreviated extension over the oval soundhole. The top of the neck and fingerboard are bound in ivoroid, as is the top and back of the body.

The spruce top is finished in a very cool sunburst with hints of burgundy like the traditional A-4 mandolins of the 1910’s-1920’s. Two-piece adjustable bridge. The soundhole has binding with a rosette of binding and houndstooth purfling. The inside of the soundhole is also bound with ivoroid.

There is a nice quality nickel plated tailpiece that is engraved with “Black”. Nickel plated Gotoh tuners with ivoroid buttons.

This mandolin has a very nice antique look with the way the wood was dyed. It harkens back to early 1900’s instruments and has a warm glow to the patina. This mandolin also sounds great!

Comes with a good hard-shell case.

Currently in the shop for frets and setup.
