This 2015 Kimble F-5 is really a sweet sounding mandolin. It passes the “sculpted sound” test, meaning from the first note you play, you instantly understand this is a very well voiced instrument, made by an experienced maker. Adirondack Red Spruce top. Highly figured Sugar Maple back, sides and neck, with the back being 2-pc. book-matched. This instrument is fully multiple bound with antiqued Ivoroid binding showing at corners of headstock, fingerboard, top and back. Black accent lines seen around the sides of binding. Ebony peghead overlay has Kimble logo inlaid at top. Symmetrical “Fern Fronds” inlay in center. Truss rod cavity below. Radiused fingerboard has a compound radius – the first few frets near the nut are almost flat, and the last few frets of the extension show about a 10 or 11 inch radius. Fingerboard has Pearl dot inlays. Ebony abbreviated pickguard, installed by Kimble, has Ivoroid binding. Adjustable Loar-style 2-pc. bridge. Silver James tailpiece. Silver Waverly tuners with Ebony buttons.

Frets show almost no sign of playing. They have never been milled. The sound is very good, with plenty of finesse and power.
