Beautiful Walnut Massif Resonator

This 2015 Prucha Sprit “Alison Brown” Custom banjo is in peak condition and almost looks un-played. It has barely any touches to any frets and only one or two of the tiniest marks in the finish. This banjo epitomizes Prucha’s finest work.

This is a stunning Walnut banjo. The neck is beautiful straight grain Walnut with an Ebony heelcap, peghead overlay, and fingerboard. JPrucha pearl logo inlay at the top of the peghead with an intricate flourish Spirit inlay in the center. Truss rod cover before the bone nut. The Radiused Gabon Ebony fingerboard is pretty special. It has intricate pearl Spirit inlays in the Alison Brown motif. This fingerboard is 24 frets with a two fret overhang. The 19th fret has an Alison Brown signature block inlay. Four stainless H&K tuners with a Nickel Schaller 5th, all with matching amber buttons. The fingerboard is multiple bound in tortoise with white accent lines above and to the side. The head is still in new condition. All Nickel parts with only little sign of previous playing.

The pot is the traditional 3-ply Maple rim with Prucha/Ptacek pre-war style 20-hole flathead tone ring. Two-piece tube and plate flange and a two-hump clamshell tailpiece. Inside the rim is a label with Prucha’s signature, date of manufacture, and serial number. Almost the best part of this banjo is the crotch Walnut resonator. Many hours could be spent gazing at the wood. This is no ordinary resonator- it is a Prucha massif resonator, which signifies a solid wood back. While the side walls are packed with beautiful Walnut figure, the solid carved two-piece back is stunning, showing the recurve of the carve and all of the beautiful crotch flame figure. At the top and bottom of the side wall is the same multiple tortoise binding that we described on the fingerboard. These resonators are shaped on the outside and inside of the back by turning on a lathe and then hand scraping and tuning.

This banjo is in great original shape and is set up well. It sounds great!
Comes with a hard case.
