This 2017 Collings MT mandolin is a fully awake instrument, while barely showing signs of prior ownership. Traditional f-hole construction, with strikingly beautiful (Red) Maple back, sides and neck. The figure is really a rich eye-candy image of strong shimmery figure that has a secondary layer of “fishbone” figure that comes forward and recedes as you shift your viewpoint. Subtle dark amber sunburst. Engelmann Spruce top. The edge around the top is bound with single tortoise binding that matches well with the unbound (but dyed) edge of the Maple back.
The playability and tone of this mandolin is very high. Wonderful tone with little effort. A powerful presence comes from just from correctly contacting your pick to the strings – you don’t have to pick more forcefully. Slight playing wear just starting on first position frets. No problems, no buzzing, no repairs.
