This is the famous D-18 model, re-imagined as a much more desirable player’s instrument than was offered in the last 50 years. Martin “reinvented” this guitar by building it with some of the desirable attributes that earlier D-18’s had. The most notable difference is that they now come with advanced scalloped bracing, bone nut and saddle, 1 3/4″ nut width and Ebony fingerboard and bridge.
Rosewood peghead overlay with Martin & Co decal at top. Bone saddle. Ebony fingerboard with graduated Abalone dot inlays. Beautiful select Sitka Spruce top that almost looks like Adirondack Red Spruce. The Spruce top has very wide grain on the outsides of the guitar, and very tight grain in the center. Tortoise plastic pickguard. This appears to be a Mahogany neck, although Martin’s spec sheet just lists “hardwood” as the official neck wood for their D-18. Ebony heel-cap. Black outer bindings including end wedge. Ebony pins with Abalone dots. Ebony center strip in back.
We salute Martin for making the D-18 a highly desirable performance guitar again. This is a great guitar that sounds wonderful with a hot attack, and full depth. This is the straight D-18 that we’ve all been waiting on for 50 years. There are only light signs of prior ownership. Comes with original hard case.
