We have dated this banjo by its serial number and the white “Rettberg and Lange” tag on its rim. Orpheum label intact on dowel stick.
This is a very nice instrument with the peghead in perfect condition and fingerboard extremely nice, with all inlays intact and robust. It’s very difficult to find a 100 year-old instrument in this great of shape.
Nice birdseye figured maple neck and rim. Neck shows typical Orpheum artistic layering of wood below peghead overlay, fingerboard, heel cap, and down center of back of neck and dowel stick. Carved heel in great condition.
Armrest and tailpiece are modern replacements. One cobra hook appears to be replaced. Ball-end nuts appear to be original. New Waverly two-band tuners with ivoroid knobs.
Fingerboard milled and recent professional fret job completed makes for great playability.
Comes with new Gold Tone hardshell case.
