Indian Rosewood back and sides. Mahogany neck, true German Spruce top. Ebony peghead veneer, fingerboard, bridge and pins. Collings logo inlaid at top of peghead. “Cut-diamond” inlays in fingerboard. Ivoroid body bindings with wooden Herringbone purfling. Tortoise pickguard. “Zipper” backstrip. Ivoroid heelcap. Diamond volute behind nut. Nickel Waverly tuners. Ivoroid end wedge.
This is only a slightly custom D-2H from Collings. In our 19 years as a Collings dealer, we’ve had great, consistent tone from these German-topped rosewood Collings. Early on, Bill Collings suggested that we try this combination of German spruce on Indian rosewood as one of his favorite tones. We tried it on a few OM’s, and it sounded so great that our employees and friends bought them quickly. We repeated the same success with dreadnoughts, and haven’t looked back. Now almost every Indian rosewood dreadnought we order from Collings, our first choice is a German spruce top. This is because of a power coefficient that is readily available to the player, as well as a beautiful tone that has just the right amount of “growl” and grit.
