This Early 70’s Givens A-5 has Maple back, sides, and neck. This mandolin also has an Engelman Spruce top and a flat Ebony fingerboard. Ebony peghead veneer as elaborate floral pattern that shows “RLG” pearl inlayed. The flat Ebony fingerboard has pearl dot inlays. The peghead and fingerboard are bound in antiqued white binding. The body is bound with antiqued white multiple binding with a black accent line seen from the face and from the back. The neck is a full rounded “V” shape.

One large area on the face of the mandolin has finished removed due to somebody having deet “bug spray” on their arm when they were playing. There is some more finish wear on the upper part of the treble F hole and underneath the pickguard. The Back of the neck shows an Ebony streamer down the neck. There appears to be some lacquer repair on the neck in two spots, one from right behind the nut, and the other on the heel which is possibly filling an old strap button hole imperfectly. The frets have wear due to this mandolin being played, they need a slight cleanup.

This Mandolin has the Original Bone nut, original small mandolin frets, original open back tuners with cream buttons, original two-piece tailpiece with “Givens” engraved on the cover, original Givens made bridge, and a newer abbreviated tortoise pickguard, which has been installed professionally.

This is a very hearty mandolin with an abundance of tone. Comes with a good hard case.
