Scalloped Flat Fingerboard
If you are looking for a great sounding Givens but don’t want to pay top dollar, then this may be the one for you. It has lacquer wear and general player wear, but it is in real good playing shape. Spruce top, Maple back and sides, and a rounded “V” profile Mahogany neck.
The peghead veneer has the RL Givens decal at top. This peghead has some finish checking and lacquer flaking. Bone nut. Nickel Schaller tuners with pearloid buttons. The rounded “V” profile Mahogany neck has a fair amount of wear, including an area of flaked-off lacquer under the first fret. A few other dings and some lacquer checking on the neck as well. The Ebony fingerboard has pearl dot inlays, and side dot position markers. Recent professional fret job. Scalloped fingerboard with frets removed and fingerboard thinned just after the 20th fret.
The Spruce top is similar to the neck when considering wear. It has 2 areas of flaked-off lacquer – one is at the north end of the treble f-hole, with another on the bass side of the top just off to the side of the tailpiece. The top also has some fingernail wear around the treble f-hole, and finish checking.
All of the areas of flaking lacquer have been sealed with lacquer to inhibit further flaking.
New Ebony adjustable bridge, and Nickel tailpiece with Givens engraved in the center. Cream binding on the top and back edge of body. The Maple back and sides are in good condition. Ebony end pin with pearl dot. Strap button installed in neck heel.
Most all of the finish flaking has been sealed to prevent further flaking.
With all of the wear and tear mentioned, this is still a killer mandolin. The aesthetics aren’t nearly as dramatic as we’ve described them. This mandolin sounds great and plays nicely.
It has great presence and powerful projection. Solid Chop. Comes with a good hard case.
