This new Beard Vintage R Resophonic guitar is built as a “modern/traditional” concept. Paul Beard gives salute to the early original Dobro guitars with soundwell construction. But departs from those early guitars by opening up the soundwell by cutting larger openings in the soundwell at neck and tailpiece ends. This is known as open sound-well construction. Finnish Birch ply top, back and sides with a “Redburst” finish. Ebony fretboard with pearl dot inlays. Square neck. Gotoh Nickel tuners. Nickel hardware. Traditional screen holes in upper bout. Traditional “fan” cover plate. These instruments are less expensive because there is no binding around the body or neck, the logo in the peghead is a decal instead of an inlay, and there are simple dot inlays in the fingerboard. Sound-wise, they are equal to higher priced Beard resophonics. The sound is open with a nice “bite” to the attack. Great bottom string.
