Wow, this new Collings OM-2HG Custom Cutaway is a sweetheart! Once again it is apparent that we asked for the right combination of woods from the right maker. The tone matching of Indian Rosewood and German Spruce is wonderful. These woods work together to give you a warm, “gritty when you want it”, clear as a bell sound. And this sound is very developed even in new guitars with Indian/German combination. They sound much more mature and open than you think is possible.
The Neck
Beautiful one-pc Mahogany neck with nice straight grain. Squared peghead with diamond volute in back. Peghead face has undyed Ebony overlay with Collings pearl logo inlaid at top with a custom flourish pearl inlay in center. Tuners are Gold Waverly (made in Montana), with 3-lobed metal buttons.
The Fingerboard is radiused Gabon Ebony with abalone cut diamond and squares inlay at 5th, 7th, and 9th fret positions. Bone nut.
The neck is bound all the way around, with multiple ivoroid around the peghead and single ivoroid around the fingerboard.
The Body
Beautiful OM body with rounded (Venetian), cutaway. Made with high grade Indian Rosewood back and sides and a fine European Spruce (German Spruce), bearclaw top. This Spruce top is a fine thing to see. It has some tasty bearclaw figure and just beautiful grain in general. Multiple Ivoroid bindings around top and back edges, with herringbone wood marquetry inside the bindings on the edge of the Spruce top. Ivoroid heelcap and endwedge. Wooden marquetry “zipper” backstrip.
Gabon Ebony bridge with cut-thru bone intonated saddle. Ebony bridge pins and endpin.
This guitar already has wonderful sound. Very responsive and sounds way more “opened-up” than you expect for just arriving brand new!
Comes with excellent TKL AVS US made hard case.
