This new Pono BN-10 Deluxe is a lovely instrument. So far, we’ve enjoyed only the base model with less appointments such as the BN-1 and BN-2. This Deluxe model shows its distinction but is being offered at a discount due to finish checking.

The BN 10-D has lots of wonderful upgrades: strongly figured solid Acacia wood top, back, and sides. Mahogany neck with slotted peghead. Wooden bindings. Wooden roped purfling inside top edge. Abalone soundhole rosette. Ebony peghead overlay has Pono logo at top. Ebony radiused fingerboard has small dot inlays. Pre-War style open-back slotted Grover tuners. Bone nut and saddle. Ebony bridge.

These instruments are “hot” right now. Pono has had a very hard time keeping up with BN-1’s and BN-2’s and have now stopped making them at least temporarily while they make nicer versions like this one. These are very versatile, capable of being the best baritone ukulele in the room, or the best tenor guitar, or tuned as a four-string octave mandolin, plectrum guitar, etc. They are specifically dialed in for these many tunings by the Pono R&D luthier, Kilin Reece.

On the back below the ebony heelcap, shows some shrinkage in the wood grain that announces itself as rumbling in the lacquer. This is a minor feature that is not even visible on the photographs. These hard to see lines have been secured with glue by the maker. The price reflects hundreds of dollars off to account for the imperfection. A steal! Even though this guitar was shown around and demo’ed, there are hardly any signs it was played. Only minor incidental scratches and dings.

Comes with original hard shell case.
