This 1979 Gibson ES-335 CRR is throwback of sorts to the original Gibson ES-335’s that had stop tailpiece set-up, instead of trapeze tailpieces. It is a resonant instrument that plays smooth and is in great shape. The CRR means “Country rock Regular”. These CRR models have a coil tap switch to allow you to play it as Two Humbucking pickups or as two single coil pickups. The CRR Es-335’s were made for a year or two starting in ’79. There were only a few hundred of these CRR’s made, along with a run of the ES-335 CRS (Country Rock Stereo).
This is a great example of a guitar that has been nicely taken care of over the years.

The Ebony peghead overlay features a pearl crown inlay in the center, and “Gibson” logo pearl inlay above. Truss rod cover above the bone nut with “Es-335 CRR” written in the center. Back of the headstock has the serial number stamped towards the top. Nickel Grover tuners with nickel Tulip buttons. “D” profile neck is in great shape with only a couple of the lightest dings. Rosewood fingerboard with pearloid rectangle inlays and black side dot position markers on the bass side of the fingerboard binding.

The Rosewood fingerboard has been professionally re-fretted and the frets are in prime condition. The fingerboard is bound with cream binding. Dark position markers in the bass side binding.

Thin double cutaway body with cream bindings around top and back edges. All Nickel hardware. Black pickup surrounds. Low-wind Imperial 100 humbucking p/u’s with 3-way selector switch and a Vol. and Tone control for each pickup. This guitar comes with extra standard wind Imperial 100’s. At the top of treble cutaway horn there is a 2-way coil tap switch for splitting the double coil humbucking p/u’s. Original black/white pickguard. Appears to be the original tune-a-matic bridge.
Fine-tune Stop Tailpiece. Usually when you see a fine-tune version of a stop tailpiece on a Gibson it means someone replaced the original standard stop tailpiece bar with a newer version with fine tuning capabilities… However, this one seems to be original, as I have seen dozens of this same 1979 Gibson ES-335 CRR with this same fine tune stop tailpiece on them.

The body has a very tasteful tobacco sunburst with more of a brown/amber center than gold.

There is minimal evidence of prior ownership and playing. No serious dings, no lacquer problems, no fret problems, no electronic problems…!
This is a great guitar in great condition and with a fine set-up and fine sound.
Comes with it’s original hard case.
