This 2009 Kenny Ingram  by Will Williams was planned and built to deliver the sound and performance of the 1930’s traditional “pre-war” bluegrass banjos. This is a difficult thing to do, as the great pre-war banjo sound is as much about nuance and subtlety as it is about power and projection. Only a handful of modern banjos have been successful at this. It comes down to a balance of mating a good tone ring with a good vibrant wood rim.

This Williams has a double cut peg head with inlays similar to the flying eagle pattern. The Ebony peghead overlay has Williams inlayed at the top similar to the flying eagle pattern in the peghead, and a solid pearl truss rod cover down by the bone nut. This Williams banjo has a flat Rosewood fingerboard with the similar flying eagle pattern, and four railroad spikes installed at A, B flat, B, C positions.

At the 21st fret there is an Abalone block with “Kenny Ingram” engraved. The binding on the fingerboard and resonator is antiqued cream. The binding along the fingerboard shows large dark dots as position markers. This is a mahogany banjo, with a Mahogany resonator and neck. The resonator has the same antiqued cream bindings around the top and back edge, as well as two sets of concentric circles in the back. The back of the resonator does have marring from belt buckle/button marks.

This banjo is in really great shape except for the before mentioned back of the resonator. There has just been a new head installed on the banjo, and a fresh setup done by our in-shop Luthier in training, Lon Ishler. Lon has many years experience with banjos.

This a great sounding banjo that comes with a good HC.
