Description
Burlile Flathead Tone Ring
Used / 2009
Bronze / 3lb 5oz.
We have here an extremely rare Burlile Flathead Tone Ring. This is a used tone ring made in 2009. This tone ring must be used with a flathead rim – it is not a conversion tone ring.
These are made by Jim Burlile in California and are some of the finest tone rings available. He typically makes batches of 20, only keeping half or less due to very high tolerances and specific tonal qualities his tone rings must exhibit. His tone rings are made very closely to the original Gibson tone rings with a very high attention to detail. They are known to produce banjos which are tonally very close to the “pre-war” banjo sound.
This tone ring has never been plated. Jim Burlile does not plate his tone rings and encourages everyone not to plate them. He uses lead to eliminate all cavities and gas pockets in the bronze, creating a very even resting surface for the banjo head.
Stamped with date and “Bur”.
