SN: 9300 / Quilted Mahogany
Built-in Capos / Rare !
This early ’90’s Nechville custom Galaxy Nuvo with quilted Mahogany is in great shape and is very rare. Not only does it feature great materials and workmanship but it also features some engineering innovations for banjo. Foremost is the sliding capo that sits in a special “zero fret” pocket at the nut. It has a rolling rubber on fretboard that easily moves forward to the desired fret.
Beneath, the capo is anchored to a brass track that is cleverly tucked below the fingerboard binding. Not only does this capo slide easily up the neck, but it corresponds with a brass 5th string capo that slides along the same brass channel. A third innovation is having a neck with no 5th string tuner mounted on the side… The result is all 5 strings have tuners mounted on the headstock.
It is hard to examine this banjo and not be impressed with Tom Nechville’s engineering capabilities. Not only is this a beautiful banjo and a work of art, it is also a marvel engineering!
The Mahogany straight-grained neck is appointed tastefully, with radiused Ebony fingerboard inlaid with celestial inlays of pearl and abalone. Flamed Maple bindings with multiple accent lines. Even the brass channel along the sides for the capos to travel on looks artistically good. The Ebony peghead veneer has Nechville logo pearl inlay at top with a Saturn planet inlay in center. Truss rod access is above the bone nut. Five main Gotoh tuners in peghead with matching black buttons.
The pot is made with Tom Nechville’s patented “Heli-Mount” system, which allows the head to be adjusted more like a jar lid as opposed to a drum. Like the fingerboard, the resonator is bound with flamed Maple bindings that have multiple accent lines. The back and sides of this resonator are made with extremely nicely figured Quilted Mahogany. Look at the photos of the resonator and you’ll see what we mean.
This banjo is in very fine condition and is all set-up and ready to play. Comes with good hard case.
