There are some sound differences between “Octave Mandolin” strings and “Bouzouki” strings, because of the pairs with octave higher strings in the “Bouzouki” sets.
True “Octave Mandolin” strings have identical string pairs in each string course, ie: both G strings are same gauge and type.
With “Bouzouki” strings, the lower strings have pairs of wound string alongside an octave higher plain steel string, much like a 12-string guitar has.
This makes the Bouzouki style set up sound a little more distinctive.
