Description
Gibson Mastertone Style Parts Banjo
Exc condition / 1-1/4″ width at nut
Mahogany / Huber Vintage Ring
Wreath / Comes with good hard case
This is a Mastertone style parts banjo with some choice original and real top-tier parts. Although it carries the Gibson name on the peghead and resembles a Gibson, while including some original Gibson components, it’s not a Gibson product.
The peghead features the Gibson wreath pattern in the ebony overlay. A well-fitted bone nut is in place. The tuners are old Grover pancakes in good working condition with a fifth string tuner made by Gotoh.
The Mahogany neck, crafted by Arthur Hatfield, is outstanding. It features a rosewood fingerboard with the Gibson wreath pattern as well as the “Mastertone” block at the 15th fret.
Huber vintage tone ring. Original RB 250 style tension hoop. Adding to the list of original parts, there’s an original Gibson armrest and flange. The thumb screws and coordinator rods are older parts. The tailpiece is a newer Prucha tailpiece, while the original 4-string tailpiece from this pot is included in the case.
The rim is an old Gibson 3-ply Maple Rim, showing signs of previous separation and professional repair. To sum up, this banjo isn’t a casual attempt; it’s crafted by someone who knew what they were doing, resulting in an exceptional sounding instrument. The combination of an original rim and high-grade tone ring often yields great results, and that’s exactly the case here.
You can choose to buy this banjo with a regular hard-shell case or opt for a Calton case for an additional fee.
