Handmade by Chuck Ogsbury, the founder of ODE banjos in 1958, who also founded “OME” banjos and now owns both companies.

These banjos represent several batches of simple open-backs as a way of re-introducing the ODE banjo line, which Chuck had sold decades ago and only relatively recently re-acquired.
We are luck to get a very few of the ones he calls “Maple Specials”. These are made with a very effective multi-laminate rim and highly figured Maple neck.
I know its hard to believe this next bit, but its true… These “Maple Special” necks are re-purposed Gibson Granada and Gibson Earl Scruggs necks (we’ve had some of both).
I am serious! The Gibson inlays have been removed, fingerboard filled, and dot inlays installed. Pegheads and heels were reshaped and voila’, you have the ODE Maple Specials.

Chuck just informed me that the last of these Maple necks are in short batches right now, so these two or three that we have represents the last of them.
The inside of rim is signed and dated. Back of headstock has burned-in ODE logo. Headstock shows an Indian Head nickel inlaid in center.
H&K tuners with amber buttons. All hardware is antiqued. Handmade wooden armrest installed.

These are very simple and elegant banjos, built by one of the longest active banjo makers in the world.
Of course they sound great.

Comes with a good padded gig bag.
We try to keep them in stock as 11″ pots and 12″ pots, but they are selling pretty quick whenever we get a few.
This one is 11″.
