New. Serial number: 1175.
Top tension. 24-fret fingerboard. Special Walnut.
Elaborate woods, inlays, plating, binding, and engraving.

This banjo has some of the most elaborate appointments of any banjo from Prucha’s shop. Like all Prucha banjos, it is handmade only with the four hands of Jaroslav Prucha and his son John. This banjo has everything…

“Spirit” peghead showing large J Prucha logo and complex flourish in center of peghead. Abalone truss rod cover. All inlays are abalone. Peghead is multiple-bound with tortoiseshell celluloid bindings that have abalone purfling seen as sides of peghead. Radiused Gabon Ebony 24-fret fingerboard with exquisite and delicate Spirit inlay pattern. Railroad spikes installed at A, Bb, B, and C positions. Fingerboard shows multiple tortoiseshell bindings with abalone purfling seen on the sides. Neck is made with straight-grain Walnut. Gabon Ebony heelcap multiple bound with tortoise bindings and abalone purfling. Massif Crotch Walnut solid carved resonator made of finest cured American Black Walnut bookmatched, turned on a lathe, and then hand-scraped and voiced. Back of resonator is exquisite but so are the side walls, with heavy figure seen on both surfaces. Top and back edge of resonator and bound in multiple tortoise with abalone purfling beneath the binding.

This beautiful top tension banjo is made even nicer with deep gouge hand-engraving almost everywhere. The hardware is a tasteful mixture of black nickel and gold.

Of course this is made with Prucha’s Ptacek 20-hole flathead tone ring mounted on Prucha’s great 3-ply maple rim.
