Description
Exc(-) condition / SN: 94712
1-11/16″ width at nut / Bird’s eye Maple
This 1937 Gibson L-7 has a lot of character, both in its overall condition and “look” as well as in its tone. Simply put, it will look great and sound great on stage.
The bound peghead is bound with cream binding and has an Ebony peghead veneer. “Gibson” is inlaid in pearl at the top in the old style “balloon script”. Below the script logo, there are floral pattern inlays. Truss rod access is above the bone nut. Original Grover Nickel G-98 open-back tuners with Nickel 3-lobed buttons. Rounded “V” profile Mahogany neck.
Mahogany neck, Maple back and sides, and a very nice Adirondack Red Spruce top. The Maple back has some beautiful bird’s eye figuring and a very dark finish. Beautiful sunburst finish on the top. Some belt buckle scratching in the back.
The Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard has ornate mother of pearl “picture frame” fingerboard inlays. These inlays were actually inlayed into rosewood apart from the guitar, then inlayed into the guitar using an outline “frame” around the Rosewood containing the imported Rosewood blocks with inlay (See Photos). It has black side dot position markers on the bass side of the fingerboard binding.
The original bound tortoise pickguard is in good condition. Original nickel trapeze tailpiece with “L-7” engraved at the bottom. Replacement two-piece adjustable rosewood bridge with nickel screws installed. The D string tuner has been replaced with a vintage replacement.
There is an extra strap button hole drilled in the heel. The Adirondack Spruce top definitely has player wear, but it is in good structural condition. The mahogany back and sides show a good amount of player wear but no open cracks. The binding is in good shape. The neck has no breaks or repairs.
It comes with a non-original vintage 1950’s Gibson hard case.
