Description

Exc (-) condition. Width at nut: 1 3/4″.
Excellent spruce top. Could be Engelmann. Appears to be one-piece back (we can’t find a glue seam). Mahogany back, sides, and neck. Original Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Original pickguard and truss rod cover. Blackened peghead face shows old gold Gibson balloon script logo used in 1946, just after the Banner was discontinued. Pearl dot position markers in fingerboard. Bone nut. Bridge has cut-through bone saddle and abalone dots covering extra mounting screws that Gibson historically almost always employed. Top and back of body bound in antique’d white binding. Re-issue Kluson DeLuxe tuners installed (period tuners available – please inquire). Strap button installed in heel. Endpin, strap button, and bridgepins all ebony with abalone dot. Advaned scalloped X-braces.
Action is very low and playable. Frets show slight wear under B string. Two side cracks on treble side near waist, tight and stable. Two pickguard cracks, one on each side of pickguard, repaired. Pickwear around soundhole and above pickguard. Generous amount of scratches and dings throughout. Hand wear on back of neck through finish.
This guitar has a beautifully crisp attack and is very well balanced. Super snappy for flatpicking and wonderful as a strummer.
Comes with cool tan/faux sheepskin case that fits loosely. Calton flight case and/or period Gibson case may be available. Please inquire.
