This 1965 RB-250 banjo almost defined the “modern” banjo sound for Gibson for the 1960’s and 1970’s.  During this era of Gibson banjos, they produced a handful of models. The main bluegrass banjos were the RB-250, the “-500” and the “-800”. You almost never see an RB-500… You do find quite a few RB-800’s from that period… But the mainstream runaway favorite was the RB-250. Lots of serious players, from pro players in the top bands, to casual parking lot pickers, chose these RB-250 banjos.
Mahogany neck and resonator, with a multi-laminate Maple rim and 20-hole Flathead tone ring.

The “fiddle” peghead has an Ebony overlay with Gibson script logo near top with the “250” diamond inlay pattern below and truss rod cover under that. Appears to be the original bone nut.
Flat Ebony fingerboard with the RB-250 diamond inlay pattern. Distinctive Gull Wing inlay at 17th fret and Mastertone block inlaid at 21st fret.
The three-piece Mahogany neck is a nice “U” profile. Tuners are: Original 2 offset tuners marked, Gibson, at 1st and 4th strings; Keith-Scruggs D-Tuners at 2nd and 3rd strings; Schaller 5th.

The pot features a 20-hole pre-war style Flathead Tone Ring on a Maple multi-laminate rim; Tube-and-Plate flange; 24 hooks and nuts; “Gibson” 4-hump clamshell tailpiece; “Gibson” double bracket armrest.

All parts & hardware appear to be original.

This banjo is in great original playing condition. It is a well-used banjo with a few nicks and bumps around the resonator. The resonator has a round sticker in the inside middle, that has West Virgia state seal.

Comes with its OHC.
