Description
Exc condition / Serial number: 73409050
1 3/16″ width at nut / all original
This fine vintage 1979 Gibson RB-250 banjo is in great original condition. You can tell it’s been played by a few scratches on the resonator, but there are no problems and has never had a need for repairs. Original two-band Gibson offset tuners. Appears to be Kroll 5th string.
Fine two-piece Mahogany neck with Ebony peghead veneer and flat Gabon Ebony fingerboard. Peghead shows Gibson script logo, pearl inlay near top with standard RB-250 inlays beneath in the fiddle-cut peghead. Truss rod cavity near nut. Possibly an ivory nut but hard to tell. Standard RB-250 pearl inlays in fingerboard (gull wings and diamonds) with Mastertone block at the 21st fret. Fingerboard and resonator are bound with antiqued cream binding. Hardware is chrome-plated.
This banjo has had recent fretwork and shows only very light fretwear.
These old RB-250s have a distinctive sound, like “schpring”. This banjo is a very fine example.
Comes with original hard case – also in good shape.
New head recently installed – we’ll update the photos soon.
