This 2001 Martin HD-28 is a fine dreadnought in nice playing shape. It has that good crisp attack with depth that flat pickers love. High grade Sitka Spruce top, Indian Rosewood back and sides, and a Mahogany neck. Ebony fingerboard and Bridge.

The Rosewood peghead overlay features the “Martin & Co.” decal at the top, Nickle closed-back Martin tuners with Nickel buttons, and a bone nut. Diamond volute in back. Ebony fingerboard has graduated pearl dot inlays, and small side dot position markers on the bass side of the fingerboard. “C” profile.
The body has antiqued cream bindings around the top and back edge. The top also has the traditional wooden Herringbone purfling inside the binding on the top edge. Cream Heel Cap and End Wedge.
The soundhole rosette consists of 3 concentric circles of multiple white/black binding layers (see photos). Tortoise pickguard. Ebony bridge with bone intonated saddle. White pins with black dots.
The Indian Rosewood back has a wooden “Zipper” backstrip down the middle.

A McIntyre “Feather” Pickup is installed with endpin jack. *This McIntyre “Feather” pickup is a good acoustic pickup, using a polymer film with filament wires embedded. Doc Watson used a Feather pickup for a time in the early 1990’s.

This guitar is in pretty nice shape, playing-wise, but does have various touch marks and dings here and there. Frets have been recently milled and polished and show almost no wear. All in all, its a pretty nice guitar that would make a bluegrass flatpicker happy. There is a very slight crack repaired on the treble side.

The set-up is good and the sound is very concise and focused. Big full sound. Comes with it’s original Hard Case.
