This 2004 Brentrup 22 v mandolin is in wonderful playing shape. There is very small amount of player wear on the 1st through 4th frets of the fretboard. The beautifully figured Maple back has one small ding that is easily found and another that is difficult to see. Bottom side of lower point also has two or three small dings from being set down. A patch of wear is visible on the back of the peghead where the blackened back transitions into the neck.
The Neck is fully bound with tortoise outer binding and an accent white line seen from face of peghead overlay and fingerboard face. The Ebony peghead veneer has JBrentrup Pearl inlay at top and an abalone/pearl flourish below, with pearl “22” inlay. Ebony truss rod cover is just above the bone nut. Nut width is 1-1/8″.
Radiused Gabon Ebony fingerboard has medium pearl dot inlays and double-cut extension that is scalloped away after the 20th fret. Outer tortoise celluloid binding shows white position markers on the bass side.
Gold Schaller tuners with newer handmade hand inlaid ivoroid tuner buttons (see photos). Modified “V” neck profile. Ebony stringer along back of neck.
This fine mandolin has Red Maple Back and Sides w/ Italian Spruce top, with Ebony fittings. Tortoise celluloid bindings around top and back edge that also show the white accent line. The oval sound hole is bound with white binding inside and has a tortoise rosette with wooden hound’s tooth borders. The black finish of the top does not obscure the Spruce wood grain. This black varnish does have some imperfections of some fissures and other signs of finish migration. Ebony traditional Loar style adjustable 2-pc bridge. Gold engraved James tailpiece with “Model 22” engraved in the lid. Ebony contoured pickguard installed.
This is a wonderful mandolin with great sound. More power and projection than many oval hole F-models and with a fine oval hole sound.
