This 2012 Collings C10 SB Custom “Camper” is a pretty rare guitar. A few years back Steve McCreary at Collings put together a couple of styled versions of these guitars, called the “cowboy” and the “camper”. The Camper version had Western sunburst finish, square peghead, speckled pickguard. We aren’t quite sure which options above those would make this example a “custom”. Maybe its the deep body, or maybe the OM spec neck. Please read on…

The Collings C10 model started as a salute to the old L-0’s and L-00 guitars from the 1930’s. But Collings used their own ideas about scale length and bracing, departing from the old L-00… almost as if the L-00 was built by Martin in the 1930’s instead of Gibson. As if Gibson built an OM.

Bell-bottom L-00 shape with 25.4″ long scale and deep 4 3/4″ body. Neck is a Mahogany vintage style OM neck with squared headstock, and 1 3/4″ nut. Bone nut. Ebony radiused fingerboard with graduated pearl dot inlays. Ebony peghead veneer with Collings logo pearl inlay at top. Mahogany deep body with Sitka Spruce top. Top has beautifully light Western Sunburst finish. Top is bound with Ivoroid binding with multiple purfling lines on inside edge. Back has single Ivoroid, like the heelcap and the endwedge. Ebony rectangular bridge with cut-thru bone intonated saddle. Ebony bridge pins and endpin.

This is a truly great guitar. They dang sure did design a great guitar for entertaining a crowd at a campfire. It has very quick attack and has strong voice. It fingerpicks and flatpicks well.

There are a few little things to mention. Some tiny droplets (9 or 10) landed on the guitar top below the bridge. They are very hard to see unless you look with the light just right. One edge dent in back of peghead between B and high E strings.
Comes with OHC.

  • This guitar, ordered today, would cost $5085 at the discounted selling price.
