This fine 2015 Nechville Phantom Galaxy banjo is a perfect one for figured Maple enthusiasts! The Maple on the neck has vibrant figure its entire length and the resonator has one piece highly figured back and fiddle-back flame on the sidewalls. Couple this handsome brown-amber Maple with an Ebony radiused fingerboard with the Galaxy inlays, and the black hardware and you have a very attractive banjo.
Tunneled 5th string. Black bindings around resonator and neck. R.R. spikes installed at A, Bb, B, C positions for 5th string capo’ing. The radiused Ebony fingerboard has very cool space motif inlays: a Galaxy, several planets, stars, comets, etc. The inlays are quite well done and are interesting to look at.
This banjo is in exceptional condition and has no problems, no repairs, etc.
Unique features of the Nechville banjo design
1) the Helimount pot – Tom Nechville implemented an interesting “jar lid” concept of tightening his banjo heads. Special tools that are very easy to use are included that quickly adjust the tightness of the head. In effect, you “screw” the head down almost like screwing on a jar lid to make it tighter, instead of tightening each individual hook, like adjusting a snare drum.
2) Neck Heel Adjustment – Tom has also designed a curved neck heel that adjusts the angle of the neck.
3) Tunneled 5th String – Tom didn’t invent this concept of having the 5th string tunnel under the fingerboard, but some might say he’s perfected it. All five tuning pegs are in the peghead – none are in the side of the neck like a normal 5th peg would go.
This is a fine sounding and fine playing banjo. Comes with the original case.
